THERE was a double celebration for the Moralee family when brothers, Ben and Jack, triumphed at the Young Farmers' sale of over-wintered cattle held at Hexham and Northern Marts, when Ben first secured the supreme championship before Jack landed the reserve title.

Picked out by judge Nigel Leighton, from Goole, Yorkshire, the champion was a British Blue cross heifer originally bought from Willimoteswick which also earned Ben the award for the highest return on purchase price when she went on to sell to £1550 Steven Lee, of Agars Hill, marking a net profit of £640 compared to her October purchase price.

The reserve champion from older brother Jack was the second prize Blue heifer, initially bought from Woodhall, which was later knocked down to Les and Jonathan Bainbridge, Seamer, for £1360, earning a net profit of £540.

Best of the bullock entry was a Limousin cross from Michelle Athey, which was bred at Rookhope and earned Michelle a net profit of £360 when he sold for £1250.

Thomas Wilson had the best turned out calf in the shape of a Charolais cross heifer bred at The Raw, which sold for £1220.
