A CHARITY calf that was auctioned at the Bowberhill Holstein dispersal at Carlisle, raised £1050 for Send a Cow – a charity nominated by Malcolm and Jean Hutchinson, in memory of their late son, Matthew.

Bowberhill Logrey Upright Mandy, a March 2017-born daughter of Morningview Upright, is out of Bowberhill Logrey Sam Mandy 6, and sold to Buckabank Farm, Dalston Carlisle.

The Send a Cow Charity works with struggling families in some of the poorest parts of Africa. Founded by a group of West Country dairy farmers some 30 years ago, it provides training and support in sustainable organic farming so that families can grow their own food and lift themselves out of poverty.

As well as cows, the charity provides a range of smaller livestock including chickens, goats and pigs. As part of this, all families receive comprehensive training in animal husbandry and management, helping to ensure the wellbeing and productivity of the animals.

Send a Cow helps people to help themselves, giving them the skills, knowledge, seeds and livestock to make the most of their land. With the charity’s support, smallholder farmers and their families discover they can feed their families, earn money, protect the environment and strengthen their community.
