Heifers reached £1300 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Fiddler, Barrow, Ling, with dairy beasts to £1100 for a pair of Friesians from Messrs Neil, Thornington.

One of the largest shows of 512 weaned calves met a consistent trade throughout to top at £1190 for Limousin bulls from Messrs Norman, Low Moorhouse, Limousins also topping the other sections at £1120 for bullocks from Hollin Close and £990 for heifers from Beamwham.

A QUALITY show of 1047 store cattle met an excellent demand at Dingwall and Highland Marts, where the 627 bullocks cashed in to average 238.4p per kg and 406 heifers levelled at 236.3p.

Heifers from Bunchrew Farm, Inverness, topped the sale at 322p for a pen of 472kg Salers crosses as well as £1700 for a pair of 530kg Simmental crosses.

Bullocks reached 288.1p for a 354kg Charolais cross from Greenvale, Thurso, as well as £1280 for a 555kg Limousin cross from Kinchyle, Scaniport.

Averaging 204p, the 13 bulls peaked at 255p and £1160 for a 455kg Simmental from Wellhouse, Beauly.

The entry of eight breeding cattle sold to £1500 for a Salers cross heifer with heifer calf at foot from Balavil Estate, Kingussie.

Of the 79 prime and feeding cows, which averaged 152.3p, a Limousin cross from Dunain Mains, Inverness, made 194p and a Charolais cross from Conon Brae Fars, Conon Bridge, realised £1530.

A GOOD turnout of buyers ensured all stock sold at satisfactory levels at United Auctions' sale of 209 cattle and 218 sheep last week.

A pen of Limousin cross bullocks from Aird Farm topped at 310.2p per kg with Simmental cross bullocks from Pitcastle Estate leading the gross trade at £1100. Bullocks levelled at 240.15p.

Averaging 229.7p, heifers reached 278.8p for Limousin crosses from Feorline and £1000 for the same from Lurignish.

Sheep sold to levels in keeping with current values, with hoggs to £89 for Texel crosses from Crunachy.

A MIXTURE of breeds were to the fore of United Auctions' sale of 2102 store cattle, last week, where 1196 bullocks levelled at 227.31p per kg, with 749 heifers at 219p, 80 dairy-bred bullocks at 153.59p and 77 young bulls at 212.37p.

Leading the entry at 283p was a Limousin cross bullock weighing 286kg from Upper Samieston, with bullocks also leading the gross trade at £1360 for a 660kg Simmental cross from Glenfernate.

Dairy-bred bullocks reached 198.5p for a 393kg Holstein cross from Meikle Camoquhill and £855 for another weighing 552kg from Bandirran.

A Charolais cross weighing 304kg from West Gormack topped the heifers at 268.1p while a 630kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Victoria realised £1235.

Of the young bulls, an Angus cross from 6 Seacliff made 250p while a Simmental cross from Swansmill hit £1235.

Averaging 154.72p, the 164 cast beef cows sold to 201.6p for a British Blue cross from Drumelzier as well as £1770 for a Limmy cross from Newhouse of Glamis.

The 43 dairy cattle sold to 159.4p and £1090 for a Holstein Friesian cross from Kinnermit, and averaged 119.1p.

Also on offer were 1888 store and breeding sheep, where Texels from Ballochgair topped the store hoggs at £100 and Mule gimmers scanned at 185% to a Texel topped the breeding sheep at £122 for Wester Jawcraig.

WITH a large ringside of buyers present, all classes of store cattle continued to sell well at Craig Wilson's offering of 815 last week.

They reached £1430 for a pen of Simmental bullocks from Knockeen as well as 280.6p per kg for a pen of Limousin bullocks form Little Airies.

Limmies from Little Airies also topped the heifer trade at 260.4p, with heifers also reaching £1295 for more of the same from Little Creoch.

The sale saw 407 bullocks level at 229.3p or £925.68 while 314 heifers averaged 219.8p or £872.20.

The 94 dairy-bred bullocks cashed in to average 219.8p or £872.20, having sold to £1000 twice from Drongon House as well as 200p from Creechan Park.

Store and breeding sheep met a buoyant trade throughout as the 50 in-lamb females sold to £135 for a pair of gimmers from J Cole, Overton Road, Irvine.

Hoggs (512) reached £76 for a pen of 18 Suffolks from Messrs Walker, Craigneil Farm, Colmonell.

AN increased entry of cattle met a strong demand at Craig Wilson's sale of 276 stores, last week, where averages improved on the previous sale*** as 164 beef-bred bullocks averaged £847.32 or 220p per kg (+£2.25 or +2p), with 29 dairy-bred bullocks at £648.18 or 173.p (+25.32 or +39p), and 79 heifers at £712.85 or 213p (+£2.55 or +8p).

The sale reached £1200 for a Limousin bullock from Simpson Farms, Culscadden, with Limousin bullocks from G Adams, Clugston, topping the price per kg at 257.3p.

Limousins also topped the heifer section at £970 from C Muir, Larg, as well as 248.3p from W Gemmell, Holm, while dairy-bred bullocks reached £945 from H Young, Claunch, and 186.7p from H Parker, Inchparks.

ALL classes of store cattle met a fast selling trade for the 1659 on offer at Aberdeen and Northern Marts, last week.

Limousins led the price per kg at 325.4p for a pair of heifers weighing 418kg from Mid Fleenas, Nairn, with bullocks to 297.2p for one weighing 360kg from Lower Cairnglass, Ardersier.

Per head, it was Charolais cattle that topped at £1450 for a pair of 766kg bullocks from Skeibhill, Aberchirder, as well as £1390 for a 684kg heifer from South Keithney, Burnhervie.

The 1096 bullocks cashed in to average 244.3p with 602 heifers at 234.8p, while eight young bulls reached 219.4p and £1370 for Limousins from Drumforber, Laurencekirk.

Of the cattle from the Orkney and Shetland isles, a pen of six Aberdeen-Angus bullocks weighing 300kg from Redland, Stromness, topped at 278.3p, with bullocks also hitting £1340 for a pair of 572kg Charolais from Nistaben, Harray. Heifers reached 243.4p and £1300 for a 534kg Charolais from Odinstone, Shapinsay.

Also on offer were 3029 sheep, where store hoggs reached £94.50 for Suffolks from Milton of Inveramsay, Pitcaple, which topped the 969 from the mainland. Hoggs from the islands (199) reached £90 for Texels from Newbigging, Skelwick, while ewe hoggs (129) sold to £84.50 for Charollais from East Cairnton, Drumoak.

The 368-strong entry of grit ewes sold to £92 for Texels from Evergreen, Kininmonth.

Feeding ewes met an exceptional increase in value as 1364 feeding sheep peaked at £177.50 for a pen of 11 pure Texels from Veltigar, Tankerness.

BULLOCKS led Caledonian Marts' sale of 579 store and breeding cattle when a pen of Simmentals from GS Stewart, Wester Whin, Falkirk, topped at 292p per kg and a pen of Limousins from D Reid, Middlerigg, Falkrik, hit £1310.

Bullocks averaged 215p while heifers levelled at 214p, having sold to 274p for Limousins from A Dunn, Redhall, Gargunnock, and £1230 for Limousins from A and J Orr and Son, Hill O Harthill, Harthill.

A Charolais rom D and L Graham, Mains of Burnbank, topped the young bulls at 204p and £1130, while dairy-bred bullocks reached 152p from JB Taylor and Sons, Blackburn Mains, Bathgate, as well as £760 from W Baxter, Gryffeside, Kilmacolm.

Also on offer were 697 sheep, where grit ewes reached £90 for a Texel cross from Scott Adam, Hill of Arnmore, a price matched by Mule ewe hoggs from Nicole Stevenson, Bowridge.

Suffolks from R and A Fletcher, Naemoor, topped the store hogg entry at £80.
