SCOTTISH breeders brought home a number of the top priced bulls from the Irish Limousin Cattle Society’s March premier show and sale of bulls held at Roscrea Mart in County Tipperary, last month.
The sale, which was postponed by a week due to Storm Emma, saw 50 bulls cash in at £3730 to meet a 75% clearance rate, with a top price of €13,800 paid for the junior champion.
Sale leader was Richard O’Beirne’s 17-month-old Millburn Luquacious from his herd at Ardour, Cloghans Hill, Tuam, Co Galway. An ET-bred son of Wilodge Vantastic and out of Millburn Bobby Dazzler, a daughter of Mas Du Clo which was champion at the Irish Beef Expo a number of years ago, he sold to the Davidson family – Richard and Kathleen and children, Richard and Rachael – of the Corsairtly herd, Keith.
The Millburn herd produced another sale at €5100 in the shape of the reserve senior champion, Millburn Letterman. A son of the Wilodge Vantastic-sired Wilodge Joskins, this 19-month-old bull also goes back to a Mas Du Clo dam. Buyer here was Anthony Quinn from Co Kildare.
Next best at €8300 when sold to Orkney with British Limousin Cattle Society chairman, Michael Cursiter and wife Ruth, who run their Lagas herd in Evie, was the 19-month-old Keltic Londolozi from Teleri Thomas, Enfield, Co Meath. By the home-bred bull, Keltic Handsome, which is an Ampertaine Commander son, Londozoli is out of the Wilodge Cerberus-sired, Keltic Jubilation.
Two bulls came under the hammer at €5000 to include the senior champion, Ardlea Lordship from Dan Tynanm Mountrath, Co Laois. By the herd’s stock bull, Craigatoke Jack, which was purchased for 17,000gns at Carlisle in 2015, he is out of the Ampertaine Foreman-sired cow, Elite Jessica. Lordship sold to Tom O’Reilly, Co Armagh.
Walter Wight, who was buying for his Monkeypuzzle herd near Melrose, paid the same money for the reserve junior champion, Clontown Loni from Kevin and Kieran Treanor, Scotstown, Co Monaghan. No stranger to the show ring, this Wilodge Cerberus son has picked up a number of tickets at local shows.
Aberdeenshire pedigree and commercial producers, Keith Stewart and sons, Keith and Charles, of the Greenhaugh herd at Huntly, forked out €4800 for Cavelands Lord from Paul Sykes, Aglora, Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo. A September, 2016-born son of Hamac, a bull which the Irish Limousin Society has imported semen from, he is out of the Ronick Hawk-sired dam, Cavelands Irene.
