MEGAN Forsyth from Mains of Minnydow, Castle Douglas, secured both the champion and reserve tickets at the Dumfries and Galloway Young Farmers' overwintering competition held at Dumfries. 
Her champion, a 13-month-old, Limousin cross heifer named Little Miss Meg, sold for the top price of £2650 to Billy Boyd, Dumfries, producing a new Young Farmers record. Bought from breeder, Brian Templeton, West Bowhill, Annan, for £930, she is by a 6000gns Homebyres bull, out of a Limousin cross British Blue dam. 
Megan's reserve champion, a Limousin cross bullock named The Eliminator then made £1400 when snapped up by judge, Blair Duffton, Huntly, who bought a number of other prize winners on the day. Bred by Gary Bell, Haas Side, Lockerbie, he is by a Hartlaw sire. 
Ali Jackson, stockman for Solway View British Blues near Annan, then received £1950 for another bred by Gary Bell, Haas Side. This was a 454kg, Limousin cross heifer bought for £1500 which sold to Fraser McNicol, Stirling. 
Ali's girlfriend, Hannah Sloan from Rigghead, Dumfries, then received £1700 from Blair Duffton for her 574kg, Limousin cross bullock bred by Craig Malone, Pitcairn, Fife. 
Outwith the Young Farmers' calves, the fortnightly sale of store cattle included 171 bullocks which averaged 233.8p per kg and 129 heifers at 232.1p. Bullocks reached £1350 for a Simmental from Jim Goldie, Newbie Mains, while heifers sold to £1120 for a Limousin from Mains of Minnydow.
