A LIMOUSIN bullock weighing 690kg from Gask led the gross trade at Lawrie and Symington's prime sale, last week, when it sold for £1600.80.

While eight bullocks averaged 237p per kg and 21 heifers levelled at 242p, top price per kg was 270p for a 586kg Limousin heifer from Nethermyres which also made £1582.20.

Bullocks also realised 250p for a 578kg Limousin from the same home.

Prime hoggs (707) averaged 274.9p (+43.1p on the week) and peaked at 317.2p for Beltex from Easter Balgillo and £164 four times from the same home.

Top price among the cast ewes was £150 for Suffolk crosses from Govals.

Huntly

CENTRE records were smashed once again at United Auctions' sale of 2472 old season lambs when they averaged 263.46p per kg and sold to £160 for 66kg Texels from North Dorlaithers, Turriff and 302p for 43kg Texels from Braehead, Bainshole.

Just seven new season lambs peaked at 289p for 44kg Dorset from Brae Edge, Castletown and £141 for 60kg Zwartble from Corrybrae, Kildrummy.

The 904 cast ewes sold equally as well when Mules were regularly surpassing the £115 mark. Top price was £170 for Suffolks from Auchnarrow.

Cockermouth

TRADE reached 223.50p per kg and £1466.16 for a 656kg Limousin bull from Prospect House Farm at Mitchells Auction Company's sale of 44 prime cattle.

Cast cows sold to 194.50p and £1291.84 for a Limousin from Oughterside Mill, while OTMs peaked at £113.50 and £1078.25 for an entry from Midtown.

Another lift on the week saw record prices achieved among the prime sheep when 1441 spring lambs and hoggs reached 357.10p on two occasions for a pen of Texel and Beltex hoggs from KD Harryman. Top price of the day was a Texel hogg at £178 from JW and VI Naylor, Hill Green.

Spring lambs realised 296p from WCG Holdings, Eirinntalla, while 422 cast ewes and rams sold to £147 from Seafield House and £120 for Texels from Harrot Hill.

Thainstone

ALMOST 8000 old season lambs sold through Aberdeen and Northern Marts, last week, where all classes met a lesser trade than last week's extreme rates.

While the entire sale averaged £109.72, old season lambs levelled at 250.5p per kg (-33.8p) and sold to 331p for a pen of 37kg Beltex Upper Tullochbeg, Huntly and £166.50 for a pen of Texels from Denhead, Lonmay. The 5727 SQQs averaged 249.2p (-37.9p).

The firm also sold 40 prime cattle, comprising 11 bullocks which averaged 212.8p per kg (-1.2p) and 29 heifers at 220.7p (+0.3p).

Bullocks topped the gross section when a 710kg Limousin from South Crichie, St Katherines made £1554.90, while heifers led the pence per kg at 239p for a 580kg Limousin from Monlettie, Methlick.

Heifers also sold to £1489.20 for a 680kg Limousin from South Crichie with bullocks to 228p for a Limousin weighing 505kg from Whiteside, Tullynessle.

Among the 109 beef cows which averaged 155.3p (+4.5p), a 770kg Limousin from New Mains, Glenkindie, topped at 191.6p and another Limousin weighing 835kg from Govals, Kincaldrum, made £1570.

Stirling (Cal)

HEIFERS topped Caledonian Marts' sale of 81 prime bullocks, heifers and young bulls when Limousins from A Pettigrew, Faskine, and W Dandie, Learielaw, made 252p per kg.

Averaging 228p, heifers also peaked at £1651.40 from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Octhermuthill, while bullocks levelled at 218p and reached £1783.60 from MI Wainwright, Todhall and 248p from Easter Ochtermuthill.

Young bulls cashed in at 193p and sold to 225p from W Dick, Mains of Throsk and £1568.16 from R and L McCulloch, Over Hillhouse.

The 79 cast cows and bulls saw beef cows average 153p and reach 190p from Glenside Farming and £1430 from W Dick, Mains of Throsk, while diary cows levelled at 103p and peaked at 135p from W Waugh, North Bankhead and £900 from J and J Kinloch, Walton.
