A ‘CUIL stick’ proved the star attraction at the Blackface Sheep Breeders’ Association charity auction at the Royal Highland Show, selling for the top price of £2600 to Ewen Macmillan, Lurg, Fintry.

The stick, made by the late Graham McClymont and donated by the McClymont family was one of several items forward to be auctioned in aid of RSABI and My Name’ 5 Doddie charities, which raised £6000.

Retired auctioneer, Alec Young also sold a ewe lamb from Hugh and Alan Blackwood, Auldhouseburn, for £1000, to Frankie Walton, Dalton, who will have the pick from the sale lots of ewe lambs.

The top lot of semen – four straws from a £25,000 Elmscleugh tup, donated by the Wights, Midlock – realised £100 per straw, selling to Alastair and David MacArthur, Nunnerie, Elvanfoot.

The ‘Texel stick’ donated by Jimmy MacKenzie, auctioned off the following day during the judging of the breed in aid of the Doddie Weir charity, made £2000 selling to Archie Hamilton, Smyllum, Lanark.
