Suffolks from Steven Buckley's Sitlow flock from Buxton, Derbyshire, proved the star attraction at a breed show and sale at Carlisle, last week, attracting three of the lead four prices including the day's best at 2800gns.

Selling at this mark was the male champion and supreme overall, a ram lamb selected by the pre-sale judge, Stewart Lathangie, who owns the Pyeston flock from Fife. A son of Salopian He's The Boy – a 4200gns purchase at the National in 2016 that bred sons to 4500gns – he is out of a home-bred ewe by Jubilee Legacy. The buyers were H Annett and Son, Widdrington, Morpeth.

The next lot in the ring from the same flock then made 2300gns selling to Roy and Gregor Hiddleston, buying for their Irongray flock from Dumfries. This was a member of the first prize pair of ram lambs and a son of Sitlow Concept, which in turn was by Salopian He's The Boy. The dam is a daughter of Strathisla Sinatra.

The other member of the winning pair, by the same sire and bred from a Haddo High Voltage dam from Sitlow, made 2200gns selling to Messrs Skidmore, Billingham, Cleveland.

James Wallace's Claycrop flock from Kirkinner, Newton Stewart, was another to come up with the goods, matching the 2300gns sale with a tup lamb purchased by Stephen Illingworth, Lockerbie, Dumfries. The breeding behind this transaction includes Castleview Knockout, onto a Deveronside-bred ewe by Strathisla Speed.

Heading across the water to Northern Ireland, Messrs Alexander, Randalstown, bought the third prize ram lamb from Hazel Martindale's Landale flock from Ecclefechan, Lockerbie. A son of the Rhaeadr Royal son, Dol-lys Dynamo 1, he is out of a ewe by Drimmie Senatia.

Two tup lambs came under the hammer for 1600gns including a substitute entry from Welsh breeder, Myfyr Evans, purchased by Messrs Graham, Carlisle. He is by Rhaeadr Raring To Go, a tup retained for breeding last year by Rookery Royal Escort and bred from a ewe by Cairness Cognac.

Later, Pamela Lupton's Kexbeck flock from Ripon, received the same money for the second prize lamb, a reserve champion from the North Yorkshire County Show and second prize trimmed lamb at the Great Yorkshire. A son of Rhaeadr Reggae out of a ewe by Rhaeadr Skyfall, he was knocked down to D and A Livestock, Harrogate.

Top priced female at 1150gns was the first prize ewe lamb from Elizabeth Needham's Norman flock from Stainton, Kendal, purchased by Messrs Thomas, Stone, Staffordshire. She is sired by Stonehills Great Yorkshire, the breed champion at the Great Yorkshire last year, and out of a ewe by Pexhill Sprinter Sacre.

Averages: 20 gimmers, £425.78 (-£91.19 for 14 fewer); 12 ewe lambs, £585.38 (+£223,61 for one more); six shearling rams, £915.25 (+£20.09 for two more); 62 ram lambs, £704.18 (+£56.99 for the same number).
