ALASTAIR Gault's well known Forkins Suffolk flock from Newtownabbey, Co Antrim, continued on its winning ways at the Northern Ireland Branch show and sale at Ballymena, securing the top awards in the tup lamb and the shearling ram sections.

Following on from his success at Stirling, where his best, a Rhaeadr Rio son, sold for 20,000gns, the champion lamb, another by Rio, realised 1700gns selling to the judge, Jonathan Lucas, buying for the Finn Vale flock from Co Donegal.

Mr Gault's first prize shearling ram, by Forkins Fandango made 1400gns selling to Patrick Carolan, buying for the Muff flock from Co Cavan.

Top price was 2000gns paid for a Solwaybank Duper Duper-sired lamb from Anthony Patton's Carrowmoney flock from Newtownards, Co Down, which sold in a two-way split to Fred Smyth of the Windyhill flock and Geoffrey Douglas, buying for his Benview flock from Limavady.

Just behind, on 1900gns, Dennis Taylor's reserve champion lamb from the Ballynacannon flock, was purchased by Tommy Kavanagh, Co Donegal. He is by Lakeview Innuendo.

Brian Dickson's Islandmoyle flock sold to 1500gns for a Lakeview Armani-sired lamb, which sold to M Morton, Newry.
