Centre records were smashed at the Scottish Regional show and sale of Jacob sheep at St Boswells, last weekend, when a shearling ram from veteran breeder, Max Harper's Harbell flock from Hawick, sold for 2100gns.

Harbell Lincoln, the male champion and supreme overall at the pre-sale show, was also champion and reserve inter-breed sheep at Haddington and breed leader at Dalkeith, last month. A son of Arkleside Dudley, bred from a home-bred ewe by Gowanbank Drummie, he was purchased by Blackface sheep breeder, Ewen Macmillan, Lurg, Fintry, Glasgow.

Mr Macmillan also bought the top priced female and reserve overall at 1400gns, Hope Shimmer, a ewe lamb from Wyn Harries' Hope flock from Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire. The breeding behind this substitue entry includes Pike Field Braveheart onto a Hope ewe by Saughtree ram.

The same home also produced the lead priced gimmer at 850gns, purchased by K Gaskell, Horwich, Bolton. First in her class, this Hope gimmer is by the Scottish sire, Hyndshaw Highland Laddie, bred by Helen Baillie and out of a Hope ewe.

Mr Harries' male entry peaked at 650gns for the second prize tup lamb, purchased by Marion Leithhead, buying for her Cavers flock from Hawick. Hope Rocket is by Rocky Boy and out of a Hope ewe.

Gowanbank Carter, the top priced ram lamb from Arbroath breeders Willie and Edith Crowe, made 700gns selling to Gordon Connor and Scott Dalrymple, buying for their Dun Mor flock from Linlithgow. Their purchase is by Fields Flash and out of a Milldale ewe by Hyndshaw Lewis.

Two females made 650gns including the sole entry from Messrs Haworth and Locker's Blackadder flock from Skipton, purchased by EJ Wilson, Wasdale, Seascale. This was a ewe lamb by Pentrenant Louis out of a Meathop ewe.

Young Adam Christie, Glass, Huntly, bought two ewe lambs from M Munro's Kinloch flock from Ladybank, Fife, going to 650gns for an Oakdean Dave daughter and 600gns for an entry by the Blackbrook Darcy son, Kinloch Emlyn.
