A SHOW ewe lamb from Ian McConnell, led the Rouge show and sale at Carlisle, last week, securing the female championship and top price of 1000gns.

His entry, Ian's Ulanda, from Kirkmahoe, Dumfries, is by Ballylane Scotsman and stood second in her class at the Highland Show. Bred from the Castlescreen Pavarotti-sired, Ian's Rochelle, she was knocked down to Northern Ireland breeders, Messrs Christie, Ballymoney, Co Antrim.

Top priced gimmer at 600gns was Sue Wilkinson's Langlands Tinker, from Barningham, Richmond, which also sold across the water to Ballymoney, with Messrs Simpson and Calvin. She is by Sunrise Regal.

Tups sold to 600gns on four occasions with the first being John Harbinson's Glenkeen Tempo, a Quarrymount Eric Cantona shearling ram from Limavady, Co Londonderry, purchased by Messrs Gate, Northwich, Cheshire.

Aberdeenshire breeder, Pat Imlah who owns the Bennachie flock from Kingseat, Newmachar, sold two at 600gns to include the first prize shearling ram, male champion and reserve overall in Bennachie True Gold. Messrs Summers and Son, Gainsbrough, Lincs, forked out the cash for this son of Gerigne Fernand – the reserve male champion at this year's Highland Show and former champion Rouge in Belgium.

Later, Bennachie U R The Boy, the second prize ram lamb, made the same money selling to Messrs Brolly, Co Londonderry. Another by Fernand, he is bred from the show ewe, Bennachie Pennie.

The last of the 600gns lots also sold across the Irish Sea in an all-Ireland transaction. Tullyvallen U Topper, a ram lamb by Prix Du Marolleau and a brother to the 2017 Balmoral Show champion from AJ Graham, Greenmount Road, Antrim, was bought by Messrs Haggerty, Ballymoney, Co Antrim.
