A 484kg Charolais cross from Claycrop, led the heifer trade at 328.50p, whilst a 662kg Limousin cross from Nether Dalkeith, made £1885.

Simmental crosses from Glenturk, led the young bulls at 275.60p and £1775 with this section cashing in at 255.74p.

Also forward were 182 breeding cattle which witnessed a Simmental cow and calf outfit from Balrobert, realise £2300.

Carlisle

More than 400 store cattle met a brisk trade this week at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale, where a top call of £1880 was paid for Limousin steers from Messrs Harrington, Grange Grassing, Wigton.

Heifers were led by a Limousin from James Field, Claremont Properties at £1600.

Among the weaned cattle, Limousin bullocks made £1470 for Messrs Henshall, Sarkshields.

British Blue bulls topped at £1400 from David Allen Farming, whilst a Charolais heifer realised £1190 from Messrs Kermod, who also sold the top priced cow and calf at £2100 in the form of a Hereford.

The weekly sale of 410 calves achieved a top of £630 on two occasions for Limousin and British Blue bull calves from A and A E Harrison, Roundhill, Wigton.

The heifer section reached £570 for an Aberdeen-Angus from D Holmes, Nutholme, Lockerbie.

Croft House, were back in the money amongst the heifers when securing £1825 for a Limousin.
