The pre-sale judge, Eric Buchan, Glenisla, Torphins, purchased his choice of champion and reserve at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' show and sale of Aberdeen-Angus-sired cattle.

The champion a 634kg steer from Sheep Park farms, reached £2100, whilst the reserve was a 658kg steer from A and A Foubister, Netherton, made £2090.

Out with the show a top price of 339.8p per kg was paid for 440kg Limousin bullocks from Cairntack, Belhelvie and to £2070 for a 776kg Charolais cross Hallbreck, St Margarets Hope. Overall, 251 bullocks averaged 288.4p.

Heifers (231) cashed in at 279.2p having sold to 347.8p for two 230kg Charolais crosses from Tillenturk, Torphins, and to £1800 twice – for a 646kg Limousin from Backfield, Drumlithie and for a 648kg Simmental cross from Fernieslack, Kininmonth.

Dingwall and Highland Marts sold 1491 weaned calves and store cattle at their annual direct ballot sale, where the judge, Colin Petrie, Upper Meft, awarded the champion to a five-month-old 280kg Limousin cross bullock from A Banks, Torvaig, Portree which later realised £1100.

The reserve from N Morrison, Portnalong, Carbost was a nine-month-old 340kg Limousin cross bullock which made £1100.

Weaned bullocks (769) averaged 325.2p per kg and sold to 452.0p for a pen of 115kg Limousin crosses from Kingsburgh Snizort and to £1280 for a pen of 415kg Charolais crosses from Totescore, Portree.
