Newton Stewart

Lambs (1166) averaged 236.17p per kg at Craig Wilson’s, having sold to 292p for Beltex from S and A McCaig, Mount Pleasant, or to £142 for Texels from W and S Kerr, High Boreland.

Cast sheep sold to £175 for Texel tups from Messrs Campbell, Dinnans.

Dumfries

Some 659 prime lambs were forward for C and D Auctions sale which peaked at £133.50 from Collochan.

Cast sheep sold to £158 for Texel tups from Rigghead.

Wooler

Harrison and Hetherington sold 1091 lambs to average 252p per kg having sold to 340p for Beltex from Bewick Folly, or £150 for the same breed C Mellor, Annstead.

A Beltex cross ewe topped the 337 cast sheep at £249 for WK McGowan, Glengolly House, Craiglea.

Huntly

At United Auctions’ sale of 1117 lambs which averaged 234p per kg a top price of 275p was paid for Beltex crosses from Nether Drumallachie, Glenkindie, or £148 per head for a Texel from Auchenbreddie, Insch.

Texels topped the cast trade at £190 for a ewe from Dunscroft, Huntly.

Longtown

Some 9127 sheep were forward by C and D Auction Marts’ sale where 3808 lambs averaged 254.8p per kg having sold to 318p for Beltex from T Holmes, Nutholm, Lockerbie, or £160 for Texels from AR Bell and Son, Kirkton, Hawick.

Cast sheep (5319) sold to £265 for Texel ewes from EH and MH Johnson, High Chesters, Hawick with cast cattle to £1498 for a Galloway from Eskdalemuir Forestry Ltd and 230p for an Aberdeen Angus from E Wilkie, Shaw Cottage South, Berryscaur.

Stirling (UA)

United Auctions sold 8836 sheep at their sale where 5651 lambs averaging 245.05p per kg, peaking at 312p for a Texel from Shenlarich. Top price per head was £152 for Beltex from Woodhead of Aberdalgie.

Cast sheep (3185) sold to £210 for a Texel ewe from Meadows and a Texel ram from Halbeath.

Stirling (Cally)

Some 141 cattle sold through Caledonian Marts, saw heifers average 301p per kg, selling to 338p or £2300 per head for a British Blue from Ross Brothers, Wardhead, Strichen.

Bullocks averaged 299p, from a top of 330p for a Limousin from MO Penston, Macmerry and to £2243 for a Limousin from FC Eccles, Bruckley, St Andrews.

Cast cattle (52) averaged 197p and sold to £1820 for a British Blue bull from T H Gray, Balquharage.

Thainstone

Limousin crosses led the trade at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale with bullocks (27) selling to 301p per kg from Whiteside, Tullynessle and £2109.30 per head from Daies, Wardhouse.

Heifers (24) sold to 315p from Chapel of Barras, Stonehaven and to £2056.25 for an Aberdeen Angus from Meikle Haddo, Newburgh. Young bulls (18) sold to 257p for a Limousin cross from Hillocks, Whiterashes and to £2192.20 for a Charolais from Milton of Collieston, Ellon.

Cast cattle reached £2380 for an Aberdeen-Angus from Darrahill, Udny.

The 1554 lambs (1554) averaged 231.5p having sold to 267p for Beltex from Newtonbank, Gordonstown and £125 for Texels from Little Muddie, Inverurie and South Craighead, Skelmuir, and also Beltex from Bogiefeulach, Tornaveen.

Cast sheep (781) averaged £73.44 and sold to £230 for Texels from Inverebrie,Ellon.

St Boswells

Bullocks (24) and heifers (31) averaged 287p per kg and 292p respectively at Harrison and Hetherington’s sale.

Bullocks sold to 318p and £2092.44 per head from Bee Edge, with heifers to 326p from Bee Edge and £1953.08 from Lurdenlaw. Young bulls peaked at 299p or £1797.60 from Stuartslaw.

Cast cattle sold to 255p or £2575.50 for a cow from Thorneydykes. Lambs (1656) averaged 254p having sold to 308p or £150 for Beltex from Craiglea and 490 cast sheep averaged £81.32, selling to £145 for Texels from June Scott, 6 Chesters Brae.

Lanark

Heifers sold to 352p per kg and £2085 per head for Limousins from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees Farm, Canonbie, at Lawrie and Symington’s sale.

Bullocks sold to 308p or £1891 for Limousins from Messrs Cunningham, Walkerdyke Farm, Strathhaven.

Cast cows sold to £1990 from Messrs Wilkins, Wester Whitecastle Farm, Biggar or to 238p from Messrs Hamelink, East Millrig Farm, Wiston.

The 3756 prime lambs reached £161 per head for Texels from Messrs Gray, Langside, Lanark, or 337p per kg for Beltex from Messrs Murray, Calton Farm, Cumnock, to average 247p per kg.

Ayr

Lambs (2741) averaged 245p per kg at Craig Wilson’s sale, having sold to 280p for Beltex from Messrs Young, Tormitchell or to £245 for Texels from Messrs Wilson, Barneil.

Cast sheep (853) reached £212 for a Texel ewe from A Robertson, Birgidale Knock.

Dingwall

Dingwall and Highland Marts sale saw bullocks sell to 243p and £1758.40 for a Simmental cross from Allanglach Farm, Kessock. Heifers averaged 292p having sold to 307p and £1953.60 for Limousin crosses from Udale, Dingwall.

Lambs (394) averaged 224.5p and sold to 268p and £120 for Beltex crosses from Upperton, Glenurquhart with 1029 cast sheep to £160 for a Texel ram from Keepers Cottage, Tomatin.

Castle Douglas

At Wallets Marts’ sale of 1792 lambs averaged 248.4p per kg having sold to 337.5p for a Texel from Messrs Clement, Borgue House, or to £135.50 for Beltex from Gelston Castle.

Cast sheep sold to £217 for a Texel ewe from Messrs Smith, Low Arkland.
