The first district ballot sale of 755 weaned calves sold through Dingwall and Highland Marts saw bullocks (399) and heifers (338) average 304.6p (+46.4p on the year) and 280.6p (+46.3p) respectively.

Charolais crosses led the bullocks at 418.2p for a 220kg entry from Keppoch, Dundonnell, and to £1350 for a 480kg animal from Caulternich, Kilmorack.

Heifers sold for 450.0p for a 200kg Charolais cross Keppoch, Dundonnell, and to £1300 for a 480kg Simmental cross from Sandamhor Farming, Isle of Eigg.

Young bulls (20) averaged 275.0p having sold to 360.0p for a 225kg Charolais cross from Keppoch, Dundonnell, and to £960 for a 395kg Beef Shorthorn from Alvie Estate, Kincraig.

The previous day, 127 weaned and store cattle were topped by entries from Lower Barvas, Stornoway. They sold a 525kg Limousin cross bullock at 263.0p and £1380, whilst a 440kg Limousin cross heifer realised 264p and £1160.

The 69 weaned bullocks averaged 233.1p having sold to 313.0p for a 265kg British Blue cross from Atlantic View, Harris, and to £1080 for a 453kg Limousin cross from Lower Barvas, Stornoway.

Limousin crosses from Lower Barvas also topped weaned heifers at 264.0p for a 265kg entry and £800 for a 332kg animal. The 40 weaned heifers cashed in at 215.0p.

Texels from Messrs Glasgow, Felton Farm, West Linton, led Lawrie and Symington's sale of 4202 store lambs, when selling for £107.

At their second special sale of Blackface wedder lambs in conjunction with the Livestock Marketing (Borders), Lawrie and Symington sold 2290 to average £62.87 (up £1.58 on the year) having sold to £90 from Cronberry.

On Tuesday, 713 store cattle were sold with bullocks and heifers cashing in at 255.2p per kg and 253.5p respectively.

Bullocks sold to 314.7p for Limousin cross from A Baillie, Broomfield Lodge, Larkhall, and to £1840 for an Aberdeen-Angus cross from AW Bryson, Mafflat Farm, Quarter.

Limousin crosses from A Baillie, Broomfield Lodge, also led the heifers, when selling to 335.8p and £1700.
