Newton Stewart

Some 1702 sheep sold through Craig Wilson saw 1155 lambs average 249.6p per kg having sold to £137.50 per head for Suffolks from R and J McMaster, Blairbury.

Cast sheep reached £120 for a Beltex cross tup from P Hunter-Blair, Nether Cleugh.


Dumfries

Texels topped the lamb trade at C and D Auctions’ sale where 1060 lambs averaged 253.4p per kg having sold to 297p from Maryholm and to £148 per head for Texels and Beltex from Newmains.

Prime cattle sold to 326p for a Limousin heifer from J Jardine, Yett, with cast cows to 216p from HW Sloan, Rigghead and £1833.50 from Herries Farms, Lantonside.


Wooler

Beltex led the trade at Harrison and Hetherington’s sale where 1156 lambs averaged 259p, selling to 330p from Twizell and £150 per head from AJ and T Snaith, Great Tossan.

Cast sheep sold for £150 for a Beltex cross ewe from WK McGowan, Glenholly House, Craiglea.


Huntly

Some 1725 lambs sold by United Auctions at their weekly sale averaged 233p per kg having sold to 262p for a Texel from Seggiecrook, Grange, and to £152 for a Texel from Corsairtly, Keith.

Cast sheep sold for £185 for a Texel cross from Meikle Begshill, Drumblade.


Longtown

At C and D Auctions’ sale, 5379 lambs averaged 245.8p per kg, after selling to 344p for Beltex from J Muir and Son, Cleughbrae, Dumfries, and to £164 for Texels from AJ and LJ Haston, Dearham Hall, Dearham.

Cast sheep (5272) peaked at £270 for Bluefaced Leicesters from RA McClymont and Son, Kirksteads, Yarrow.

Cast cattle sold to £1260 for a Simmental from JA and E Dinwoodie, Archerbeck, Canonbie and to 165p for Limousins from The Flatt.


Stirling (UA)

Some 10,539 sheep were sold at United Auctions’ sale where 6465 lambs averaged 241.94p per kg. They sold to 333p for Beltex from Mains of Dalruzion and to £152 twice for Beltex from Cretlevane.

Cast sheep sold to £245 for Texel ewes from Carse of Trowan.


Stirling (Cally)

Limousins took the top prices at Caledonian Marts’ sale where bullocks averaged 301.3p per kg having sold to 325p from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn. Heifers averaged 307.79p and sold to 338p from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, Muthill and to £2073 per head from AM Connon and Sons, Skilmafilly, Ellon.

Young bulls averaged 268.14p and sold to 288p from JR MacGregor, Dyke and to £1996 from A MacGregor, Allanfauld.

Cast cattle averaged 143p and sold to 203p for an Aberdeen Angus from W and C Pickard Ormiston and to £1450 for a Simmental from JM Ingleby, Mailing.


Thainstone

Aberdeen and Northern Marts had forward 3713 sheep, where lambs averaged 237p per kg having sold to 307.3p for Beltex from Drumnahive, Kildrummy and to £151 for Beltex crosses from Shougle, Birnie.

Cast sheep averaged £73.53. They peaked at £252 for Texels from Logie Durno Farm, Pitcaple.

Bullocks averaged 269.8p and sold to 287p for a Limousin cross from Pityot, Bridge of Muchalls and to £1911 for a Simmental cross from Turfhilock, Drummuir.

Heifers averaged 282.4p and sold to 305p for a Limousin cross from Mid Harlaw, Inverurie and to £1855.65 for a Simmental cross from Tewel Farm, Stonehaven, while young bulls averaged 249p after reaching 295p for a Limousin from Clury Farm, Dulnain Bridge or £2354 for a Limousin from Uppermill, Tarves.

Cast cows averaged £1533.41and sold to £2010 for a Charolais from South Mains, Tillymorgan with bulls levelling at £2063.33 after selling to £2390 for a British Blue from Coleburn Farm, Longmorn.


St Boswells

Harrison and Hetherington had forward 158 cattle and 1890 sheep at their sale on Monday where 37 bullocks averaged 292.88p per kg having sold to 316p from Learielaw.

Heifers (64) averaged 294.18p with a top price of 338p from Learielaw.

The six young bulls sold for 310p from Fowberry Moor and £2075.84 from Wolfstar, to average 214.07p.

Kerseknowe topped the cast cattle which averaged 174.68p, at 239p or £2227.48. Lambs (1425) averaged 244.7p having sold to 304p for Beltex from Crookston and to £141 for Beltex from Craigsford Mains.

Cast sheep sold for £153 for a Texel ewe from J Anderson and Son, Headshaw Farm.


Lanark

Limousins topped the trade at Lawrie and Symington’s sale, where heifers sold for 348p per kg from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees Farm, Canonbie, and to £2112 from Messrs Warnock, Hill Farm, Strathaven.

Bullocks sold to 305p from Messrs Pettigrew, Faskine Farm, Airdrie, and to £2177 from Hill Farm.

Cast cows sold for £1830 from Messrs Harper, Southmains Farm, Biggar, and to 235p from Messrs Wight, Midlock Farm, Biggar.

Lambs (4274) averaged 249p having sold to 309p for Beltex from Messrs Murray, Calton Farm, Cumnock, and to £152 for Suffolks from Messrs Linton, Sornfallow, Wiston with cast sheep reaching £266 for Texels from Messrs Laird, Cambwell, Skirling.


Ayr

Some 3533 sheep sold through Craig Wilson on Monday, saw 2924 lambs averaging 240.6p per kg having sold to 312p for Beltex from Messrs Cousar, Howcomman, and to £144 for Texels from Messrs Reid, Over Borland.

Cast sheep (609) sold for £186 for a Texel tup from A Currie, Fisherton.


Dingwall

Dingwall and Highland Marts had forward 966 sheep which saw 313 lambs average 229.7p per kg having sold to 270p for Beltex from Inveruglas, Kingussie, and to £134 for Texel crosses from The Dell of Killiehuntly, Kingussie.

Cast sheep (653) sold for £170 for a Beltex cross from Kinnahaird Farm, Contin. Bullocks averaged 286.4p and sold to 290p or £1914 for a Limousin cross from Ashley, North Kessock, while heifers levelled at 288.3p with top prices of 302p and £1805 paid for Charolais crosses from Mountrich Farm, Dingwall.


Castle Douglas

Texels and Beltex topped Wallets Marts sale on Tuesday, selling at £135 from Messrs McConnel, Gass, Glenluce and 287.5p from Messrs Craig, Compstonend, respectively. Lambs (1333) averaged 247.05p per kg with cast sheep peaking at £129 for Texel ewes from Messrs McKie, Finniness.
