A top per head of £153.50 was paid for Texels from A and F Baillie, Low Glasnick.

Cast sheep sold for £140 for Suffolk ewes from B and H Vance, Mid Skeog.

Dumfries

A Limousin heifer led C and D Auction Marts’ fortnightly sale of 136 cattle when attaining 326p per kg for J Jardine, Yett.

Cast cows sold to 216p from HW Sloan, Rigghead, and to £1833.50 from Herries Farms, Lantonside.

Wooler

Texels topped the lamb trade at the Harrison and Hetherington’s sale at £143 per head from JHC Campbell and Son, Thrunton.

A Texel ewe led the cast sheep sale at £160 for RJ Bradbury, Black Heddon.

Huntly

United Auctions’ weekly sale of prime lambs was led by Texels at 236p per kg from Craiglewie, Cabrach, and to £150 per head from Woodside, Newmill.

A Suffolk ewe from 2 Balloch View, Grange, led the cast sheep at £168.

Longtown

An average of 261.8p per kg was achieved for 3112 prime lambs at C and D Auction Marts.

A top call of 341p was paid for Beltex from D Smith, Scobshaugh, Kirriemuir and to £160 on two occasions, firstly for Texels from R Vernon, Tahill Cottage, Beattock and again for Dutch Spotteds from Dappled View, The Bungalow, Kelso.

Texel ewes led the cast sheep at £260 for GJ Toppin, Bascodyke Foot, Ainstable.

Cast cattle sold to £1072 for Herefords from J Johnstone, North Howes, Annan.

Stirling (UA)

Some 7968 sheep sold at the United Auctions sale with 4942 lambs averaging 253.46p per kg having realised 336p for Beltex from Mains of Balhall, and £154 per head for Beltex from Cairnlea.

Cast sheep to £222 for a Texel from Wester Borland.

Stirling (Cally)

Caledonian Marts had forward 1390 sheep at their weekly sale with lambs cashing in at 267.69p per kg.

Leading the sale at 352p or £169 was a Beltex from T Miller, Glenhead, California.

Cast sheep sold for £225 for a Texel ewe from A Cutherbertson, Wester Balgair, Balfron.

Thainstone

Texels led proceedings at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 1592 lambs when selling to 289.3p per kg for Brenan, Laurencekirk, and to £151.50 for Skelbister, Orphir, having levelled at 251p.

Cast sheep averaged £77.16 and sold for £234.50 for a Texel from Kennachy Forss.

Among the prime cattle bullocks (17) and heifers (6) cashed in at 257.7p per kg and 251.8p respectively.

A Charolais cross from Daies, Wardhouse, led the bullock trade at 291p and £2189.40, whilst a Simmental cross heifer achieved 277p and £1921.85 for Tullo of Garvock, Laurencekirk.

Young bulls (34) averaged 229.1p and sold to 277p for a Limousin from Whynieton, Maud, and to £2216.10 for a Simmental from Birchfield, Midtown of Glass.

Cast cattle peaked at £2070 for a Limousin cross from Lethendry, Cromdale.

St Boswells

Harrison and Hetherington had forward 174 cattle and 2445 sheep at their weekly sale with 24 bullocks averaging 288p per kg and selling to 316p and to £2188.36 from Learielaw.

Heifers (57) levelled at 282p having peaked at 338p from Bee Edge and to £2020.48 from Mosstower.

Wolfstar, led the young bulls trade at 246p and £2001.12, with this small section of four balancing out at 244p.

Cast cattle (89) sold for £1808.94 for a cow from Whitrighill.

Lambs (1731) averaged 268.6p and sold to 329p for Beltex from Craighouse and to £163 for Texels from DJ Texels.

Cast sheep attained £187 for a Texel tup from Huntington Farm Partnership, Huntington.

Lanark

Limousins topped the cattle trade at the Lawrie and Symington’s sale with heifers selling at 362p per kg and to £2284 for Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie.

Bullocks reached 316p from Messrs Lockhart, Fauldingcleugh, Lockerbie and to £2036 from Messrs Barrie, Howburn, Biggar.

Cast cows sold for £1930 from Huntlyhill Farms, Lanark, and to 208p from Messrs Hamilton, Bickerton Hall, Whitburn.

On the sheep front, lambs (4174) averaged 265p and sold to 302p on two occasions, for a Beltex from A Baillie, Broomfield Lodge, Ashgill, and again for a Texel from R and M Struthers, Collielaw Farm, Carluke.

The top price per head peaked at £164 for Texels from A Kennedy and Son, Mitchellhill, Broughton.

More Texels led the cast sheep at £232 for Fergusson Bros, Gilandersland, Linlithgow.

Ayr

Some 3872 sheep sold at Craig Wilson’s sale witnessed 2744 lambs level at 266p per kg having reached a high of 322p for a Blue Texel from Messrs Limond, Barskelly.

Top per head of £145 was paid for Texels from Messrs Young, Castlemains.

Cast sheep achieved a top call of £140 on two occasions, firstly for a Texel from Messrs Ferguson, T/a Lanton, and again for Texel crosses from R Allan, Arnsow and CA Smith, North Boig.

Dingwall

Bullocks and heifers averaged 280p per kg and 284.6p respectively at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale of 11 prime cattle.

A Limousin cross bullock from Smerral Farm, Bower, led proceedings at 284p and £1746.60, whilst a Charolais cross heifer from Mountrich Farm, Dingwall, made 295p and £1755.25.

Texel crosses led the lamb trade at 269p for Inveruglas Farm, Kingussie, and to £143 for Drumancroy, Portmahomack, having cashed in at 242.2p.

Cast sheep peaked at £160 for a Beltex cross ewe from DB Farms, Hallkirk.

Castle Douglas

An average of 268.89p per kg was achieved for 1591 prime lambs at Wallets Marts this week.

Prices reached 303.9p for Beltex from Messrs Strurgess, Cullinaw, and £140 for Texels from Douganhill Farms and Galtway.

Texel ewes led the cast sheep at £131 for Messrs Farries, Byrecroft.

Wigton

A 695kg Limousin cross heifer from James Crichton, Loughrigg, Egremont, led Hope’s Auctioneers weekly sale of primestock at £2109.33 and 303.5p per kg.

Topping the pence per kg at 319.5p was a 639kg Limousin heifer from DA Harrison and Company, Hill House.

More than 1000 prime lambs also came under the hammer having sold to £194 and to 451.2p per kg for a 43kg Beltex from P Rae, Greenah Hall.

A similar show of prime ewes reached £171 for a pen of two Texels from JB and EJ Peile Ltd, Greystoke Castle Farm.

Carlisle

A much larger show of 72 prime steers and heifers were forward this week for Harrison and Hetherington, having been topped by a 741kg Limousin cross steer from Messrs Dent, Elm House, Appleby receiving £2248.94.

Top pence per kg among the bullocks of 313.5p was paid for a 711 kg Limousin cross from Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton.

Heifers sold to a top of £2222.85 for a 730kg British Blue cross from Messrs Dent, Elm House, Appleby, and to 325.50p was achieved twice, firstly for a 549kg Limousin cross from Messrs Dempster, Castlehill, Lockerbie, and secondly for 643kgs from Messrs Rome, Niven Hill.

A solid entry of 371 cast cows reached 189.5p and £1879 for a Charolais from Messrs Wood, Waters.

A smaller entry of only 64 prime bulls peaked at £2302.02 for the heaviest bull of the day weighing 812kg, a Limousin from Messrs Henshall, Sarkshields, Lockerbie.

Another show north of 3000 achieved an average of 277.21p and a SQQ of 284.44p or £126 per head.

Texels led proceedings at £166 and 373p for Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown.

Cast ewes peaked at £148 for Texels from High Wreay, and to £148 for hill Cheviots from Guise.
