Bullocks sold to £1800 for a British Blue from Messrs Mason, Bank Farm, Penrith.

The weekly sale of bulls and weaned cattle was led by Limousin bulls at £1320 from Messrs Watson, Beech House.

Heifers sold to £1180 again for a Limousin from Messrs Devlin, with bullocks peaking at £1070 for more of the same from Messrs Hope, Mouldyhills.

British Blues led the weekly sale of calves with bulls to £550 for R and S McKie, Stoneybrook, Lees Hill, and heifers to £530 from S Hornby, Laggonmore, Portpartrick.

Bullocks (65) and heifers (68) averaged 258.1per kg and 221.0p respectively at Dingwall and Highland Marts' store cattle sale.

A 350kg British Blue cross bullock from Granish Farm, Aviemore, secured the top price of 445.7pp and £1560.

Heifers sold for 263.0p for a 441kg Stabiliser cross from Spittal Mains, Watten, and to £1300 for 595kg Limousin cross from Croft Grant, Dalchalm.

Limousin crosses led the small selection of young bulls at 254.0p for a 370kg entry from the Willows, Ardendrain, and to £1240 for a 620kg animal from Glen Mor, Invergarry.

Breeding cattle (47) sold for £2700 on three occasions, for Beef Shorthorn cross, Whitbred Shorthorn, and a Limousin cross heifers in calf from Rychraggan, Drumnadrochit.

Ayr

Limousins led all sections at Craig Wilson's store cattle sale, with bullocks achieving £1780 for Dormieston, and 322p per kg for Rosemount, having cashed in at 280.06p.

Heifers averaged 266.81p and sold to £1730 for more of the same from East Kerse, and to 319p for North Waterland.

Also forward were 816 store lambs which sold for £113 for Beltex crosses from N Reid, Oldmill.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 14 dairy cattle to a top of £2100 on two separate occasions, firstly for a fresh calved Holstein Friesian heifer from A and M Love and Son, Muirhouse, and again for a similar type from J Kennedy and Son, Perryston.

A large show of 97 calves and stirks, reached £980 for an Aberdeen-Angus cross stirk from Redding, and heifers to £750 for a Charolais cross from Traboyack.

British Blue Crosses from HF Vance, Low Barledziew, led the calf trade, with bulls and heifers making £620 and £600 respectively.

Charolais crosses led the pence per kg section when a pair of 434kg bullocks attained 346.8p for Westerton, Echt, and to 313.5p for a duo weighing 480kg from Mains of Allanbuie, Keith.

Limousins crosses led the per head section at £2040 for a 700kg bullock from Mains of Druminnor, Rhynie, and to £1910 for a 634kg heifer from Muirhouse, Cortachy.

Bulls (17) sold for 312.5p for a 304kg Limousin cross from Balmaglaster, South Laggan, and to £1460 for a 512kg Limousin from Inchbruich, Cornhill.

Also forward were 54 head of breeding cattle which sold to £2020 for a Beef Shorthorn cross and an Aberdeen-Angus from Wester Fintray, Kintore.

A Suffolk ram from D Currie, Ballachlaven, secured the top price of £130 at United Auctions' sale of 2143 sheep of all classes.

Lambs sold for £114 twice, firstly for Texels from P Pearce, Sanaigmhor, and again for more of the same from G and M Porter, Carrabus to average £70.62.

Also forward were 627 store cattle where bullocks and heifers averaged 278.28p per kg (+31.56p) and 260.5p (+28.64p) respectively.

Limousin crosses led all sections with bullocks selling for £1480 and heifers for £1250 from J and E Morris, Woodend, and P Macdermid, Brybruich, respectively.

Among the pence per kg, it was cattle from J and J Findlay, Kilbride, that took the top spots at 426p for a bullock and 432p for a heifer.

Texels from Messrs Baldry, Howtown, led Penrith and District Farmers Mart LLP fortnightly sale of 500 store lambs, when selling for £103.

The fortnightly sale of 96 rearing calves and stirks topped at £890 for a Limousin bull from A Mason, Looking Flatt.

Stirks attained £800 for a British Blue bull from GL Armstrong and Son, Blunderfield East, with heifers achieving the same price tag for a Simmental from J Findlay, Moorside.

The Christmas calf show was judged by R Woodhouse, Howe, who awarded the overall champion to a British Blue bull from D Graham, Greenah Cragg, which later made £480. The runner up came from the same home in the form of a heifer which attained £420.

The top price calf however of £490 was paid for a British Blue bull from RW and AJ Jackson, Clarks.
