Cast sheep peaked at £180 for a Texel ewe from AC Clark, Fineview.

Dumfries

AT C and D Auctions, 1071 lambs sold to £163 per head for Texels from J McMillan, Ballaggan or to 310p per kg for Beltex from Gelston Castle.

Topping the cast sheep trade was a Texel ewe at £184 from Bettyknowes.

Lanark

Some 3524 lambs averaged 281p per kg at the Lawrie and Symington’s sale having sold to £180 for Texels from J Brown, Cardon Farm, Broughton or to 346p per kg for Beltex from A Baillie, Broomfield Lodge, Larkhall. Cast sheep (1673) averaged £82.34 with a top of £288 for Texels from Hartside Farms.

Huntly

United Auctions sold 733 sheep at their sale where 699 lambs averaged 260.1p per kg having sold to 311p for 47kg Beltex from Hilton of Culsh, New Deer. Top price per head was £149 for 60kg Bleu du Maine from Bridges, Kinnoir.

Cast sheep sold to £132 for Cheviot rams from Hilton of Culsh.

Penrith

An entry of 5702 sheep forward at Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart’s sale saw 2954 lambs average 293p per kg.

Topping the trade at 364p was a 36kg continental from Messrs Holliday, Clea Mire or £161 per head for continentals from Messrs Holliday and Graham Bolton, Wood Lane Farm.

Cast sheep averaged £100.22 with a top price of £270 paid for Texel ewes from Shethin Farm.

St Boswells

Some 1578 lambs through Harrison and Hetherington averaged 286p per kg having sold to 347.8p and £163 per head for Beltex from Huntington.

Cast sheep (336) averaged £81.84 and sold to £155 for a Suffolk ewe from RG Laing and Son, Oxmuir.

Thainstone

Aberdeen and Northern Marts had 1417 sheep at their sale where 1267 lambs averaged 277p per kg, selling to 303.6p for 42kg Beltex from West Knock, Mintlaw.

Texels crosses took the top price per head at £155.50 from Denhead of Muiresk, Turriff. Feeding sheep averaged £87.33 and sold to £260 for Texel ewe from Upper Kirkton, Dyce.

Hexham

Some 866 cast sheep sold at through Hexham and Northern Marts were topped at £200 per head by a pair of Texel ewes from C and C Farming, Flotterton Cottage.

Kirkby Stephen

A Texel cross topped the Harrison and Hetherington’s sale at £193 for Max Hayllar, Helbreck Grange, Brough. Top price per kg was 431.6p paid for five Beltex crosses from Jojo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York. Overall, 2693 lambs averaged 299.1p.

Cast sheep (621) sold to £230 for a Texel ewe from Messrs Eccles, Hardberry Hill Farm, Barnard Castle.

Stirling (UA)

Some 5860 sheep forward for United Auctions’ sale saw 4432 lambs average 297.55p per kg. Beltex from Doune Farms topped the trade at £168 per head and 355p per kg.

Cast sheep sold to £248 for a Texel ewe from West Lethans.

Darlington

An entry of 2637 sheep at Darlington Farmers’ Auction Mart sale saw 2201 lambs average 297p per kg. Topping the trade at 340p were 44kg Beltex from G and R Dawson, Crayke. Top per head at £180 were 65kg Suffolk crosses from Messrs Tallentire, Bishop Auckland.

Cast sheep averaged £111 and sold to £242 for Texel ewes from PR Weaver, Newark.

Longtown

AT C and D Auction Marts’ some 10,176 sheep were forward where 6009 lambs sold to average of 299p per kg. Top prices were £205 paid for Charollais from A Hoggan, Maryholm, Dumfries or 360p per kg for Beltex from J and AM Moralee, Hardriding, Bardon Mill.

Cast sheep (4167) reached £285 for Texel ewes from Messrs McKay, High Dyke Farm.

Hawes

Beltex from local producer, Reuben Iveson topped the Hawes Farmers’ Auction Mart sale of 1477 lambs at £280 per head or 608p per kg. Cast sheep sold for £192 for continental rams from DW and K Hutchinson, Hawes.

Stirling (Cally)

Some 1448 sheep forward for Caledonian Marts’ sale on Tuesday saw lambs average 291.61p per kg having sold to 386p or £170 per head for Beltex from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, Muthill.

Cast sheep sold for £200 for a Texel ewe from E Robertson, Skeoch, East Kilbride.

Castle Douglas

On Tuesday, Wallets Marts sold 2086 lambs to an average 290.77p per kg having sold 344.9p or £169 per head for Beltex from George Fisher, Flathill.

Cast sheep (208) sold to £190 for Texel ewes from Messrs Sproat, Lennox Plunton.
