At Craig Wilson’s sale, an entry of 2040 sheep saw 1601 hoggs average 266p per kg, selling to 300p for Beltex from S and A McCaig, Mount Pleasant. The top price per head was £150 paid for Texels from RL Milligan and Son, High Glasnick.

Cast sheep reached £153 for a Charollais tup from JG McMillan and Co, Over Airies.

Dumfries

Some 851 hoggs forward for C and D Auction’s sale, were topped by Texels at £155 per head for Newmains or 298p per kg from Dressertland.

Cast sheep sold for £172 for Texels from Hayfield.

Wooler

Harrison and Hetherington sold 1204 sheep where 866 hoggs sold to £170 per head for Beltex from A and D Proctor, Swarland Old Hall, or 315p for Texels from Linden, Hillhead.

Cast sheep peaked at £230 for Texel ewes from Messrs Craig Mellor, Annstead Farm.

Huntly

Old season lambs (1119) averaged 253p per kg at the United Auctions’ sale having sold to 293p for a Beltex cross from Craiglewie, Cabrach. The top price per head was £173 paid for a Suffolk from Wedderburn, Huntly.

Cast ewes (558) reached £258 for a Texel from Tillyminate, Gartly.

Longtown

An entry of 9395 sheep was forward at C and D Auction Mart’s sale saw 5082 hoggs average 281.9p per kg which sold to £176 for Texels from F McGowan, Incheoch Farms, Blairgowrie, or 386p per kg for Beltex from D Smith, Scobshaugh, Kirriemuir.

Cast sheep were topped at £300 by Texel ewes from K Wight, Midlock, Biggar.

Stirling (UA)

United Auctions sold 7165 sheep where 5067 hoggs averaged 272.81p per kg, selling to 349p for Beltex from Doune Farms, or to £177 for Texels from Carroch.

Cast sheep sold for £295 for Texel ewes from Allanfauld.

Stirling (Cally)

Some 164 cattle forward at the Caledonian Marts sale, saw heifers average 314.12p per kg, having sold to 335p for a Limousin from AA and J Brand, Nethermyres, Auchtermuchty, or to £2074 for a Limousin from M Orr and Sons, Penston, Macmerry.

Bullocks averaged 304.8p and sold to 330p twice from W Dandie and Son, Learielaw, or to £2153 from J and N Kerr, Bankhead, Aberdour.

Young bulls sold to 285p or £2263 for a Limousin from J Burnett, Upper Spittalton.

Cast cattle (91) averaged 169p having sold to 253p and £1620 for Limousins from Croy Cunningham Farms, Killearn.

On Tuesday, hoggs averaged 275p having sold to 360p for Beltex from AA and A Reid-Murrie, Plean, and to £165 for more of the same from G and J Davie, Harviesmailing, Denny.

Cast sheep sold to £223 for Texel ewes from PG Perring, Hoprig.

Thainstone

Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 45 prime cattle at their sale with bullocks and heifers averaging 279.5p and 289.5p per kg respectively.

Bullocks sold to 337p for a 920kg Limousin cross from Stoneyhill, Keith-Hall, or to £2205.70 per head for an 805kg Limousin cross from Newton of Savoch, Longside.

Heifers sold to 323p for a 565kg Limousin cross from Bairns of Airlie, Kirriemuir, or £2145 for both a 780kg Simmental cross from Tocherford, Wartle and a 620kg Limousin cross from Stoneyhill.

Limousin crosses topped the young bulls at 314p and £2449.20 from Newton of Savoch, Longside.

Cast cattle sold for £2540 for a 940kg Limousin cross from Meikle Geddes, Nairn.

Some 2880 sheep sold saw hoggs average 267p, having sold to 329.1p and £200 for Texels from Harestone Farm, Crathes.

Cast sheep reached £350 for a Texel from Oldtown Farm, Peterculter.

St Boswells

Bullocks and heifers averaged 292p and 293p per kg respectively at the Harrison and Hetherington’s sale.

Bullocks (29) sold for 324p from Greenknowe and £2060.80 per head from Learielaw.

Heifers (75) sold for 334p from Learielaw and £2108 from Whitsome West Newton.

Young bulls averaged 220p and sold to 230p from Commonside and £1963.12 from Allanbank. Cast cattle reached a top of £2014 or 279p for a cow from Middlethird.

The 1330 hoggs averaged 276p and sold to 350p for Beltex Hoggs from Grange Moor or £184 for Texels from Blackadder Mains.

Cast sheep (571) averaged £93.46 and sold for £185 for a Suffolk tup from JM Elliot and Partners, Woodside Farm.

Carlisle

An entry of 71 prime cattle forward at the Harrison and Hetherington’s sale saw heifers sell to £2209.57 per head for a Limousin cross from Messrs Beaty, Langhorn, Egremont, or to 311.5p for a Limousin cross from Messrs Little, Greenhill, Wigton.

Limousins topped the steers at £2200 from Bothel Parks and 312.5p per kg from The Lake.

Young bulls (94) peaked at £2823.60 for a Charolais from Messrs Wight, Carwood, Biggar and to 314.5p for a Limousin cross from Messrs Mitchinson, Beck House, Carlisle.

Cast cattle reached £2201 for a British Blue cow from Messrs Carr, Little Bavington Farm, Capheaton.

Some 2911 sheep were also forward which saw hoggs average 291p per kg having sold to £182 for a Dutch Texel from Messrs Smith-Jackson, Hightown, who also sold the highest priced entries per kg at 441p with a pen of export lambs.

Cast ewes averaged £110, selling to £190 for a Texel from Messrs Mounsey, Ashfield with rams to £170 for a Texel from Greenshields.

Lanark

Lawrie and Symington sold 130 cattle on Monday, with heifers selling for 336p per kg and £2009 per head for Limousins from DM Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie.

Limousins also topped the bullocks at 308p and £1972 from Barrie Farming, Howburn Farm, Biggar, and JF and MB Teague, Temple House, Balerno respectively.

Young bulls sold for £1706 and 242p from Calla.

Cast cattle reached £2100 from A Campbell, Strawfrank Farm, Carstairs, and to 234p for a cow from Howburn Farm.

Hoggs (2830) averaged 269p having sold 372p for Texels from R and M Struthers, Collielaw Farm, Carluke, and to £173 for more of the same from TA and R Laird, Cambwell, Biggar. Cast sheep (1534) averaged £86.91 and sold to £280 for Texels from HA Blackwood, Auldhouseburn, Muirkirk.

Ayr

Some 2444 sheep sold at Craig Wilson’s weekly sale on Monday where 1794 hoggs averaged 273.75p per kg, selling to 336p for Blue Texels from Laura Cousar, Howcommon. The top price per head was £164 for a pen of Texels from A Templeton, Low Drumclog Farm.

A Texel ewe topped the cast sheep trade at £268 from RG McCulloch, Knockendon.

On Tuesday, bullocks averaged 308.48p having sold to 309p for a Limousin from Messrs Smith, North Boig, while heifers averaged 299.03p, having reached 330p for a Limousin from the same home. The top price per head was £1986.60 paid for another Limousin from Rowanston.

Cast cattle reached £1780 for an Aberdeen Angus bull from Fineview.

Dingwall

Dingwall and Highlands Marts had forward 294 sheep where 237 hoggs averaging 277.2p per kg having sold to 320p for Zwartbles from WGC Farming Kilmartin and to £157 per head for a Texel cross from Inveruglas Farm, Kingussie.

Cast sheep sold for £116 for Texel ewes from Essil Farm, Garmouth.

Bullocks (8) averaged 275p and sold to 299p or £1988.35 for a Limousin cross from Bridgend Farm, Dingwall.

Heifers (4) averaged 279.1p and sold for 295p for a Limousin cross from Bridgend Farm and to £1848 for a Charolais cross from Kincraig Farm, Invergordon.

Castle Douglas

Some 1910 sheep sold through Wallets Marts’ on Tuesday where 1545 old season lambs averaged 276.17p per kg. Topping the trade at £157.50 per head were Texels from Messrs McConchie, Mossyard, while Beltex from Mains of Duchrie Farming, reached the top price per kg at 317.9p.

Cast sheep sold to £203 for Texel ewes from Messrs Hiddleston, Wellhill.
