Pedigree newly-calved heifers sold for £2220 and pedigree cows reached £2200 at Gisburn Auction Marts’ sale of dairy cattle.

Joint sale leader at £2220 was a Peak AltaMaui-sired heifer from H and VE Jolly’s Fieldside herd.

Their Rosebud 248, with dam and grandam yields over 13,000kg coupled with high fats, was sold giving 33kg to JC Marshall, Harrogate.

An Altabelding daughter from the same herd made £2100 and the run of eight from the Jollys levelled at £2078.

Matching the day’s top price was a Delta Lunar heifer from R and M Cowgill’s Hoole herd, Preston. The 28kg heifer out of a Claynook Fransisco-sired dam was sold to A Sowray and Sons, Harrogate.

A 33kg heifer from the old-established Peace family in the Pennine herd of Drinkall Bros, Lancaster, made £2120 to Gisburn buyers FA and TCR Wrathall.

Leading the pedigree cows at £2200 was one of four second calvers from BW and J Robinson’s Hillrobin herd at Treales, Kirkham. By Denovo Entity and with two SP dams in her near pedigree including an Ec90, 50 tonner, the 40kg cow sold to a Wrexham buyer.

The same buyer paid £2000 for a 35kg second calver from B and JM Crowe’s Yewbarrow herd at Witherslack.

The in-calf trade peaked at £1780 for the second prize heifer from RA Kirkham, Garstang which was by Stardust and carrying a sexed Holstein Friesian calf.

The first prize in-calf pedigree heifer carrying an Angus calf made £1750 for DW and MN Ishmael, Wigan.
