Sheep sales across various regions saw strong averages and top prices, with notable highlights including Beltex hoggs at 347p per kg in Newton Stewart, Texel ewes reaching £195 in Dumfries, Cheviots fetching 331p per kg in Huntly, and Beltex hoggs commanding 403.8p in Thainstone, among other impressive sales.

Newton Stewart

An entry of 1332 sheep was forward at Craig Wilson's sale, where hoggs (1125) averaged 311.5p per kg and sold to 347p for Beltex from HS MacTier and to £189 for Dutch Spotted from R Oxley, Barhom Mains.

Cast sheep sold to £152 for Texel ewes from AC Clark, Fineview.

Dumfries

An average of 307.3p per kg was achieved for the 438 hoggs at C and D Auctions' sale.

Texels led the proceedings at 357p for Muirside and to £172 for Suffolks from J Harkness and Son, Netherhall.

Texel ewes led the cast sheep at £195 for Newmains.

Huntly

Cheviots from Backlass Croft, Watten, secured 331p per kg at United Auctions sale's of 829 old season lambs, whilst a 62kg Texel from Birkenbog, Cullen, made £166, to cash in at 304p.

Cast sheep peaked at £178 for Beltex from Brownside, Mountblairy.

Longtown

Hoggs averaged 322.7p per kg at C and D Auctions Marts' sale of 4554 head having sold to 425p for Beltex from D and C Rodger, Comlongun Mains Cottage, Dumfries, and to £230 for Texels from Sharplaw Farms, Sharplaw, Hownam.

Texel ewes led the cast sheep at £320 for Balnacraig Farms.

Cast cattle sold to 217p or £1736 for a Charolais from D Baxter, Moss Side, Hethersgill.

Stirling (UA)

United Auctions sold 4512 hoggs to balance out at 325.85p per kg having realised 433p for Beltex from Longfauld and to £203 for Texels from Mains of Dalrulzion.

Cast sheep attained £312 for Texel ewes from Mains of Dalrulzion.

Stirling (Cally)

Texels led the hogg trade at Caledonian Marts' sale, having sold to 435p per kg and £208 from Harviesmailling, and Ballindall, respectively, and achieved an average of 337p.

The same breed also led the cast sheep at £238 for B Carruth, High Auchensale, Kilbarchen.

On the cattle front heifers and bullocks cashed in at 308.56p per kg and 294.66p respectively.

Limousins led the heifers at 338p for DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, Muthill, and to £1984 for AA and J Brand, Nethermyres, Auchtermuchty.

The same breed also topped the bullocks at 330p and £2160 for Easter Ochtermuthill, and JM Young, Muirhouses, Dreghorn, respectively.

Young bulls realised 290p or £2575 for a Limousin from JR MacGregor, Dyke, Milton of Campsie.

Cast cattle averaged 183p and sold to 264p for a Shorthorn from ML Wilson, Baluskie, Barrhil and to £1750 for a Charolais from A MacGregor, Allanfauld, Kilsyth.

Thainstone

Some 3575 sheep sold at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale witnessed 2909 old season lambs average 313p per kg.

Hoggs sold to 403.8p for 39kg Beltex from Quoymorhouse, Balfour and to £193.50 for 66kg Beltex from Clashendammer, Fordyce.

Texels from Home Farm of Auchry, Cuminestown, led the cast sheep at £270 to level at £95.05.

On the cattle front, a 670kg British Blue cross bullock from Stoneyhill, Keith-Hall, reached 327p and £2190.90.

Limousin crosses led the heifers (37) when selling at 331p for a 590kg entry from Stoneyhill, and to £2072.70 for one weighing 630kg from Chapel of Barras, Stonehaven.

Cast cattle sold to £2750 for a 1345kg Limousin from Coleburn, Longmorn.

St Boswells

Beltex led the way at Harrison and Hetherington's sale of 950 hoggs having sold to 400p per kg for Craighouse, and to £205 from Huntington, to cash in at 342.2p.

Cast sheep reached £220 for a Texel ewe from JW Fullerton and Sons, Corsbie.

Cattle from Learielaw, realised 322p for bullocks and to 338p for heifers.

Bullocks (51) averaged 300p whilst heifers (78) cashed in at 301p.

Among the per head section a top of £2099.20 came from Penston, and to £2182.40 from Whitsome West Newton.

Cast cows averaged 196p and sold to 263p from Corsbie and to £2055.04 from Mosstower.

Carlisle

Beltex secured the lead prices at Harrison and Hetherington's store hogg sale when selling to 510.3p per kg and £220 for Messrs Livingstone, Kirtlevale, Gretna, and Messrs Roots, Kilnford Croft, Dumfries, respectively, having averaged 358p.

Cast sheep peaked £310 for Texel ewes from R Muldoon, Dungannan.

Limousin crosses led the bullock trade at £2315.48 for cattle weighing 753kg from JS Dixon, Lesson Hall, Wigton and to 308.5p for a entry from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle.

Heifers sold to £2238.32 for a 784kg British Blue cross from Lesson Hall and to 327.5p for a 638kg Limousin from Messrs Goldie, Townfoot, Dumfries.

Young bulls sold to £3206.42 for a 1036kg Limousin from Messrs Jenkinson, Clifton Moor, Penrith, whilst cast cattle made 279.5p or £2325 for a British Blue cow from Messrs Gill and Kennedy, Moory Lea.

Lanark

Limousin heifers from DM Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, realised 345p per kg and £2152 at Lawrie and Symington's sale.

Limousin bullocks from R Warnock, Hill, Strathaven, then made 300p and £2118.

Cast cows sold to £2140 from R McCulloch, Over Hillhouse, Bathgate, and to 254p from J Wight and Sons, Midlock, Biggar.

West Glespin, produced the top price among the young bulls at £2201 and 278p.

Hoggs (3272) averaged 344p and sold to 438p for Beltex from T Linton, The Firs, Lanark and to £226 for Texels from S Renwick, Glenrath, Peebles.

Cast sheep (1737) sold to £288 for Texel ewes from Sunnyside.

Ayr

Some 2202 sheep sold at Craig Wilson's sale witnessed 1677 hoggs average 340p per kg, having reached 415p for Beltex from Messrs Paterson, Kayshill, and to £199 for Suffolks from Ardoch and Threepland.

Cast sheep peaked at £200 for a Texel ewe from J McWhirter, Dalmorton.

On the cattle front, heifers (11) averaged 307.4p and peaked at 342p for a British Blue cross from Messrs Smith, North Boig, New Cumnock.

A Limousin cross bullock from North Boig, made 324p, with this section averaging 295.5p.

Cast cattle made £1940 and 193.5p for Aberdeen Angus from Davidston and R Fleming, Castle Sinniness respectively.

Quoybrae

Old season lambs (369) averaged 306.6p per kg at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale having sold to 336.5p for 48kg Texels from Skinnet, Halkirk, and to £195.50 for 80kg Dutch Spotted Texels from Knockglass, Watten.

Ewes (445) balanced out at £105.68 and peaked at £250 for a Texel from Seaview Cottages, Dunnet.

Dingwall

Dingwall and Highland Marts sold 1426 sheep with 835 hoggs averaging 317.1p per kg.

Beltex led the way at 357p for 42kg crosses from Ballicherry, Balbair, and to £240 for Camultmuir, Kiltarlity.

Cast sheep sold to £168 for a Cheviot tup from Muirton, Munlochy.

The sole bullock sold made 290p or £1812.50 for a 625kg Limousin cross from Kinchyle, Scaniport.

Heifers (seven) averaged 296.5p and sold to 305p and £2023.50 for 710kg Limousin crosses from Cullaird, Scaniport.

Castle Douglas

Some 2132 hoggs cashed in at 333.53p per kg at Wallets Marts sale, with a top of 401.3p paid for Beltex from Scroggiehill Farming, and to £202 for Texels from Douganhill Farms.

Cast sheep sold to £213 for Texels from Denty Texels.

Kirkby Stephen

Harrison and Hetherington had forward 4768 sheep with 3561 hoggs averaging 353p per kg and selling to 500p for Beltex crosses from both Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth, Ripon and from Messrs Phillips, Fir Tree Farm, Harrogate. Price per head reached £222 for a pen of Texels from Messrs Teward, New View Farm, Darlington and also for a pair of Texel crosses from Messrs Patchett, West Summersides, Ripon. Cast sheep sold to £308 for a Texel cross ewe from Messrs Slater, Whitely Hey Farm, Macclesfield.
