Bullocks reached 359.70p for a 417kg Charolais cross from Drumbuie, and to £1880 for a 624kg Limousin cross from Nether South Bar.

A 242kg Limousin cross from Wester Gartshore, led the heifer trade at 371.90p, whilst a 766kg Saler cross made £1930 for Greenshields.

Carlisle

All classes of cattle met a brisk trade being dearer on the week at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly store cattle sale.

Limousin crosses led the proceedings, with bullocks selling to £2120 for Messrs Beattie, Woodfield, Annan, and to £1840 for heifers from Messrs Watson, Howrigg, Wigton.

East Barr Farming, produced the top price among the weaned cattle at £1490 for a Parthanaise bull, with heifers reaching £1370.

Matching the top price of £1490 was a Charolais bull from Messrs Routledge.

Bullocks peaked at £1490 from Messrs Patterson.

The weekly sale of 372 calves reached £660 for a British Blue bull from Wadsworth Farming Ltd, Big Balcraig, Whauphill, who also joint topped the heifer section at £575 for another of the same breed.

Matching that price was another British Blue heifer this time from W Wood and Son, Groundy Croft.

On Monday, the firm conducted the weekly sale of ewes and lambs, which was led by Texel gimmers with single Beltex lambs from Caleb Todhunter, Greyrigg, when selling for £170 a life.

Charolais bullocks led Craig Wilson's sale of 699 store cattle, when achieving £1860 for Ravenslie, and to 383p for Knocklaugh.

Heifers peaked at £1790 for a British Blue from Barmoorhill, and to 362p for a Aberdeen Angus crosses off Low Drummore.

Bullocks and heifers averaged 298.6p and 285.7p respectively.

On the sheep front, some 189 store and breeding sheep came under the hammer, with store hoggs selling to £170 for Texels from Messrs Campbell, Crawlaw.

Ewes with lambs peaked at £108 a life for M Connell, Balig.

On Tuesday, the firm sold one dairy heifer to a top of £2020 for a freshly calved Holstein Friesian heifer from Messrs Steel, Ditton.

Simmental crosses from Messrs Mullin, Greenhead, led the stirk trade at £890 and £820 for heifers and bullocks respectively.

Among the calves it was British Blue crosses from Messrs Dalgleish, Drummullan, that secured the top spots, with a bull making £580, and heifers to £550.

Thainstone

Bullocks (953) and heifers (742) averaged 312p per kg and 299p respectively at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' weekly store cattle sale.

Bullocks realised 392.3p for a 362kg British Blue cross from Lethendry, Cromdale, and to £2180 for a 788kg Charolais cross from Windsoer Farm, Enzie.

British Blue crosses led the heifers at 419.1p for a 260kg entry from Achnahannet, Dulnain Bridge, and to £1900 for a 572kg heifer from Murza Farm, Bower.

Among the pre-sale show, the judge, William Cameron, awarded his champion to a red 512kg Limousin cross bullock from S Smith, Sunnyhill, Turriff, which later he purchased for £1800.

The judge also bought his reserve champion at £1730 in the form of a 476kg Charolais cross heifer from EF Mutch and Sons, Burnside of Whitefield, Forglen.

Bulls (11) sold to 265p for 366kg Aberdeen Angus from Altyre Estate, Forres, and to £1720 for a 668kg Charolais from Milton of Collieston, Ellon.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 2281 store and breeding sheep including island consignments, where Texel store lambs from Rennieshill, Newmachar, made £195.

Store lambs (1791) averaged £120.29 whilst island consigned store lambs (232) cashed in at £107.26 having sold to £146 for Texel crosses from Cott of Holland, Tankerness.

Ewes with lambs at foot (258) balanced out at £87.52 having reached £114 for continental ewes with lamb and half at foot from Braigiewell, Echt.

The pre-sale show was judged by James Morrison, Nether Blairock, Aberdeenshire, who bought his champion for £1520 in the form of a 424kg Limousin cross steer from Hubert Moar, Brouster, Bridge of Walls.

Averages were up on the year, with steers and heifers cashing in at 285p and 274p respectively.

Sheep also sold well, having reached £182 for Suffolk store lambs from Messrs Nicolson, Noss Farm, Twat.
