An average of more than £2400 was achieved for 11 pedigree newly calved heifers at Gisburn Auction Martsdairy sale.

Trade peaked at £2650 for a newly calved heifer from RB and MJ Webster, Stocksbridge, Sheffield. This 31kg daughter of Solarpower carrying the Clywedog prefix, with dam and grandam classified Ex and superior production status.

Another of the Webster quartet made £2450, this one by Rubicon and under the Whitster prefix, while at £2380 was another Solarpower from the same vendors, also Clywedog registered, and also with SP dam and grandam.

Next best at £2620 came from H and VE Jolly, Great Eccleston, Preston, their Fieldside heifer being a 36kg Altaamulet from the Rolie family, out of a 14,521kg dam and Ex93(3) grandam.

Another two then made £2600 per head, giving 35kg was an Altamaui daughter out of a 15,518kg dam, and an Altagopro from their Electric Baby family.

The same home sold another Altamaui daughter from a 50 tonne grandam in the Irene family at £2480.

Selling at £2550 was the best from RA Metcalfe, Gargrave, with a Delta Podcast carrying the Luptonhall prefix.

An Attico Red daughter from JJM and HJ Walmsley, Preston, then made £2520.

Two heifers made £2450, firstly was a 33kg Sound System daughter with Ex93(2) grandam from M and J Bristol, Newton-in-Bowland.

The same price tag was paid for a Seagull-Bay Applejax heifer with a PLI of £458, from GB Moorhouse, Bell Busk, Skipton.

The pedigree cow trade saw two from Anthony Grimshaw, make £2400 and £2300, both SP second calvers giving 50kg. Dearest was Bervie Basic Nancy 105 and the other, the home-bred Carldanton Apps Mist had given 14,257kg as a heifer.

In-calf heifers peaked at £1820 for a pedigree heifer carrying an Aberdeen Angus calf from DW and MN Ishmael, Orrell, Wigan.
