In the roundup of Scotland's live prime cattle and sheep sales, prime sheep sales continue to soar at record levels, while cattle sales are on the rise.

Newton Stewart

Some 449 sheep sold at Craig Wilson’s sale saw 332 hoggs average 375.75p per kg having sold to 447p for Beltex from A and J Wright, Traboyack or to £226 for Texels from JR Howie, Auchentibbert.

Cast sheep sold to £224 for Texel cross tups from from Auchentibbert.


Huntly

Texels led United Auctions’ sale of 1024 old season lambs having reached 454p per kg for Tomnavoulin, Ballindalloch, and to £240 for North Dorlaithers, Turriff, to level at 380.15p.

Cast sheep sold to £208 for a Texel ewe from Gordonstone, Clatt.


Stirling (UA)

Beltex topped the United Auctions’ sale where 5942 hoggs averaged 397.96p per kg having sold to 576p from Cuiltburn and to £265 per head from Stanley.

New season lambs (35) averaged 421.13p and sold to 511p for Charollais from Langside and to £245 for Suffolks from both Newton of Collessie and Pyeston.

Cast sheep sold to £304 for Suffolks from Chalmerstone.


Stirling (Cally)

Limousin bullocks attained 332p per kg for AA and J Brand, Nethermyres and to £2149 for A Taylor, Wester Carmuirs. at Caledonian Marts’ sale, with bullocks averaging 293.74p.

Heifers balanced out at 302.24p having reached 340p for a Limousin from J Caldwell and Son, Moorfield and to £2219 from J and N Kerr, Bankhead.

A Limousin young bull from W Henderson, Whitehouse, made 270p or £1928.

Beltex topped the hogg trade on Tuesday at 505p per kg for JM MacDonald, Newbigging, Crieff and at £240 from G and J Davie, Harviesmailing. Some 771 hoggs averaged 380p.

Cast sheep sold to £251 for a Texel ewe from Ferguson Bros, Gillandersland, Linlithgow.


Thainstone

Some 3649 old season lambs averaged 403p per kg at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale, with Texels leading the way at 468.8p for Gerriesford, Cuminestown and to £288 for Harestone, Crathes.

Three new season lambs averaged 440.3p which sold to £204 for Suffolk crosses from Drum, Keith.

Cast sheep averaged £124.31 and sold to £272 for Texel ewes from Home Farm of Auchry, Cuminestown.

Bullocks (24) sold 287p for a 690kg Limousin cross from Middlehill, Rothienorman and to £2229.45 for an 835kg Limousin cross from Daies, Wardhouse.

Heifers (24) reached 315p or £1937.25 for a 615kg Limousin from Chapel of Barras, Stonehaven.

Young bulls (eight) sold to 277p for a 780kg Limousin from Mains of Drumbreck, Udny and to £2354.25 for a 1075kg Aberdeen Angus from Orbliston, Fochabers.


St Boswells

Harrison and Hetherington sold 1190 hoggs on Monday to average 393p per kg having sold to 483p for Beltex from Faughhill and £240 for Suffolks from Boghall.

Two new season lambs sold to £200 for a Charollais.

Cast sheep (178) averaged £107.14 and sold to £217 for a Texel ewe from J Pate and Sons, Mossilee.

Bullocks (59) averaged 291p and sold to 328p from Learielaw and to £2082.08 from Dunslaw.

Heifers (72) averaged 294p and sold to 334p from Bee Edge and to £2268.88 from Longnewton.

Young bulls (five) averaged 311p and sold to 326p or £2386.32 from Fowberry Moor. Cast cattle (22) averaged 186p and sold to 215p for a cow from Firth and to £1899.12 for a cow from Middlethird.


Lanark

Lawrie and Symington saw 2130 hoggs cash in at 409p per kg having sold to 513p for a Beltex from Messrs Baillie, Broomfield Lodge, or £272 for a Charollais from Messrs Watson, Westtown, Stonehouse.

Cast sheep (622) reached £300 for a Texel ewe from Messrs Clark, North Garngour, Lesmahagow.

Limousin heifers sold to 346p and to £2176 from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie.

The same breed led the bullocks at 318p from D and E Lockhart, Fauldingcleugh, Lockerbie and to £1925 from ARK Farming, Hareshawhead, Strathaven.

Cast cows sold to £2370 or 268p from Messrs Scott, Gateside Farm, Linlithgow.


Ayr

Beltex topped Craig Wilson’s sale at 467p per kg for Dustyhall Farming and at £250 from L Cousar, Howcommon. Overall 1211 head averaged of 391p.

Cast sheep (246) levelled at £139.11 having sold to £231 for a Texel ewe from W Brown, Caprickhill.

Heifers (12) averaged 298.94p and sold to 328p for a Limousin from The Thomson Family, Blairbowie.

Four bullocks averaged 281.17p and sold to 324p for a Limousin from the Smith family, North Boig.

Cast cattle sold to £2000 for a Limousin from Mid Ervie.


Dingwall

Some 776 old season lambs at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale averaged 376.7p per kg having sold to 416p for 43kg Charollais crosses from Dunain Mains, Inverness and to £226 for a 57kg Texel cross from Braehead, Ulbster.

Cast sheep (278) sold to £224 for a Texel cross ewe from Craigiebank Farms, Forgie. Bullocks sold to 298p or £2011.50 for a 675kg Charolais cross from Shoreton Farms, Culbokie.

Heifers from Shoreton Farms, made 298p for a 645kg Limousin cross and to £1968.40 for a 665kg Charolais cross , with six cashing in at 294.5p.


Castle Douglas

Wallets Marts sold 948 sheep at their sale where 790 hoggs averaged 383.02p per kg.

Texels topped the trade at 423.9p from Barlocco, and to £243 from J Cowie, Copelaw.

New season lambs (16) peaked at £213 for Suffolks and Zwartbles and to 451.2p for Texels all from Messrs Torbet, Whitecrook.

Cast sheep (142) sold to £285 for Texel ewes from Messrs Black, Hillside.
