A LOOK at prime sales to the week ended July 8, 2016.

Dumfries
PRIME cattle were in short supply at C and D Auction Marts’ sale where a Limousin heifer from J Jardine, Yett, led the trade at 217.5p per kg. 
Bullocks reached 206.5p for a Charolais from Horseholm, Bankend. 
Some 39 dairy cows averaged 90.1p with 16 beef cows at 119.8p. Tops here at 139p and £959 was a Limousin from Cowans. 
Prime lambs (572) peaked at 221p for Texels from Sunnyhill with Charollais crosses from Paddockhole selling for £111. 
Cast sheep saw ewes £3-£4 sharper on the week, selling to £107.50 for Suffolks from Sunnyhill with a Texel tup from Druidhall making £139.50.

Forfar
LAWRIE and Symington sold 35 prime cattle and 451 prime sheep, last week, where cattle hit 248p per kg for a 517kg Limousin heifer from Nethermyres. 
Heifers (23) also reached £1340 for a 554kg Limousin from West Bog and cashed in to average 219p. 
The 11 bullocks levelled at 211p having been topped by a Limousin from Woodhead of Mailer at 230p and £1464. 
Spring lambs (283) met a sharper trade on the week to average 202.1p (+14.3p) with SQQs at 207.3p. They peaked at 251.2p for 43kg Beltex from A Strachan, Clochie, and £107 for Beltex from Mill of Inverarity. 
A pair of Beltex ewes from Scobshaugh led the 168 cast ewes and rams at £150.

Huntly
LAMBS were dearer on the week at United Auctions, last week, where 259 sold to 202p per kg for 42kg Texels from Meikle Begshill, Drumblade, and £100 for 58kg Texels from Lynegar, Watten. 
Old season lambs (127) reached £73 for 62kg Texels from Mains of Foveran, Newburgh. 
Suffolks from Lynegar led the 292 cast ewes at £120. 

Thainstone
PRIME cattle reached 232p per kg twice for heifers at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 79 through Thainstone.
Consigned by Waterside, Forbes, and Cairncoullie, Glenkindie, they weighed in at 590kg and 545kg, respectively, with a 625kg Limousin heifer from Cairncoullie making £1387.50. The 17 heifers levelled at 214.9p (+5.9p on the week). 
Bullocks (62) averaged 195.7p (-3.3p) having sold to 220p for a 555kg Limousin cross from Hillside, Fetternear, and £1465.20 for a 740kg Charolais from Stoneyhill, Longhaven. 
Cast cows (150) saw 147 beef types average 133.8p with three dairy cows at 100.2p. 
Leading at 195p was a Simmental from Newlands of Geise, Janetstown, with a Limousin from Backfield, Drumlithie, making £1290. 
Lambs (294) peaked at 204p for 44kg Beltex from Cotbank, Drumlithie, with 46kg Texels from Towie, New Aberdour, at £93. They averaged 190.4p (+2.4p) with the 213 SQQ lambs at 192p (+4p). 
Old season (202) sold to £71.50 for a Texel from Pitfoskie, Maud.

Stirling (Cal)
SELLING through Caledonian Marts, were 97 prime cattle, eight young bulls and 45 cast cattle. 
The prime cattle entry reached 235p per kg for a British Blue heifer from Learielaw, Broxburn, with heifers, which averaged 203p, also selling to £1513 for a Limousin from Mains of Cultmalundie. 
Bullocks averaged 210p and sold to 232p for a Limousin from Balquharrage, Lennoxtown, and £1570 for a Limousin from Brockwoodlees, Canonbie. 
Cast cows peaked at 156p for an Aberdeen-Angus from Temple House, Balerno, and £1180 for a Blue from the same home. Dairy cows reached 111p and £900 for an Ayrshire from Carskedo, Cupar, to average 88p with beef cows at 124p. 
On Tuesday, some 1007 prime lambs, wedder hoggs, ewes and tups were sold, where the 577 new season lambs averaged 185p per kg (-4.4p on the week or +39p on the year).
Top price was £99 for Texels from Easter Craigduckie, Dunfermline, or 220p per kg for Texels from Lower Killernie.
The 430 cast sheep saw 228 ewes average £56.53, with 71 heavy ewes at £74 and 157 export ewes at £42.78. Top price was £117 for Texel ewes from Finmount.

Stirling (UA)
UNITED Auctions sold 3204 prime sheep through Stirling, last week, including 2101 lambs that sold to average 196.07p per kg.
They peaked at 228p for Texels from Ayton and £106.50 for Suffolks from South Flanders. 
Ewes (1103) hit a top of £117.50 for Texels from Lossit. 

Longtown
THE 2404-strong entry of lambs at C and D Auction Marts, last week, was the largest of the season and averaged 210p per kg (+42p on the year). 
They peaked at 229p for Texels from Bombie, or £113 for Texels from Peela Hill. 
Hoggs reached 168p for Hill Cheviots from Hollands and £84 for Texels from St John’s Kirk. 
The 4382 cast sheep were up £5 per head, peaking at £158 for Texels from Eastside with light ewes to £91 for Lleyns from Croftheads. Rams reached £158 for Texels from Chaseside. 

Ayr
ON Monday, Craig Wilson sold 1922 lambs and 1196 cast ewes and tups, where lambs peaked at 220.9p per kg for 43kg Beltex from Oldwalls, Galston, to average 185.7p (-19.8p on the week but +25.6p on the year). 
Top price per head was £100 paid for Beltex from Fleminghill and Dormieston.
Ewes peaked at £127 for Texels from Perryston, Dunure.
The following day, just 10 prime cattle, and 178 cast cows and bulls were sold. Heifers reached 228p per kg for a British Blue cross from Glendoune, to average 217.4p for seven. Young bulls levelled at 180.6p, having peaked at 182p twice for Galloways from South Hourat.
Beef cows sold to £990 for Angus crosses from Auchenbothie and Boreland Farms and 140.4p per kg from Boreland Farms. Top price in the dairy section was also £990 for a black and white from Kilhenzie. 
The 95 dairy types averaged 90.6p with the 77 beef cows at 125.6p.

St Boswells
PRIME lamb values also slipped on the week at Harrison and Hetherington’s sale where 1148 head dropped 3p per kg to level at 199p.
Top price was £105 per head for Texels from Huntington, Knock, and St Leonards or 224.5p per kg for the same breed from Lower Ashtrees.
The 579 ewes forward levelled at £67 having sold to £127 and £125 for Texels from Elmscleugh. Heavy ewes averaged £77 with lights at £50.
Also sold were 75 clean cattle and 47 beef cows, with 30 bullocks averaging 208.6p (-0.5p) and 41 heifers at 213.4p (+4.6p). 
Top price was 239p paid for a heifer from Bee Edge and £1428 from the same home. 
Beef cows balanced at 131.7p (+2.4p) with a top of 159p from Branton Eastside or £1466.16 from Ramrig.

Lanark
NEW season lambs averaged 193.8p per kg at Lawrie and Symington’s sale on Monday, having sold to 225.6p for 43kg Beltex from Haspielaw, Hamilton, and £107 for 54kg Texels from East Cauldcoats.
The entry of 435 cast ewes and tups peaked at £124.50 for Texel ewes from Little Galla, and averaged £68.36. 
Prime cattle (39) hit a top of 244p for a 568kg Limousin heifer from Brockwoodlees, with bullocks to 212p for a Limousin from Kepscaith.
Leading the 59 cast cows at £1195 was a Limousin from Lupas, Lesmahagow, or 166p per kg from Carmichael Estate Home Farm. 
Dairy cows peaked at £865 for a Friesian from Carlindean, or 118p per kg for a Holstein from Park.

Dingwall
PRIME cattle values increased on the week at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale on Tuesday, with steers rising 13.3p per kg to level at 215.3p, while heifers rose 21.3p, to 222.1p.
The eight bullocks sold to 230p for a 565kg Limousin cross from Raffin, Tore, and £1371.50 for a 650kg Limousin cross from Findon Mains, Culbokie.
A 570kg Limousin cross from Bridgend, Dingwall, and a 560kg British Blue cross from Easter Sheep Park, Balblair, topped the 14 heifers at 236p. Leading the gross trade at £1362.55 was a 595kg Limousin cross from Bridgend.
Sheep values slipped 7.1p when 123 new season lambs levelled at 188.1p with 112 SQQs at 189.4p. 
Top price was 212.2p per kg and £87 for 41kg Texel crosses from Lochdhu, Nairn. 
Prime and feeding sheep (123) sold to £101 for Texel cross ewes from Wester Moy, Urray.

Castle Douglas
On Tuesday, Wallets Marts sold 1161 prime lambs and 289 cast sheep.
Lambs averaged 183.98p (SQQ 184.25p), having sold to 209.5p for Beltex from Upper Hardland and £95.50 for Suffolks from Culnaightrie, Auchencairn.
Texels at £110 from Hillside topped the cast sheep.


Newton Stewart
Craig Wilson’s sale of 586 prime and cast sheep at Newton Stewart on Wednesday, saw 516 lambs average 194.2p per kg. 
Topping the sale at £93.50 was a pen of Suffolks from High Ersock. Top price per kg was 212.5p for 40kg Texels from Pinmore Mains. 
A small show of cast sheep saw a lead bid of £110 for a Suffolk ram and a Lleyn tup both of which were consigned by Cairnside. 
Ewes sold to £93 for Texels from Balgreggan Farms.
