Increased demand for milking females saw some animals rise by as much as £500 with the overall dairy trade increasing as much as £250 on the month, at Wright Marshall's Mid-Month dairy sale at Beeston.
The sale, which included sections for the Western Holstein Club’s Focus Milk pedigree cows and heifers attracted an entry of 270 head of which 262 were forward on the day.
Pedigree heifers averaged just short of £1492, selling to a top of £2100 for an entry from Cheshire breeders, Wilf, Pam and James Lomas' Leesemanor herd. Their Leesemanor Palermo Dawn VG87-2yr, which calved in April, sold giving 32kg daily, to Bradley Farms, Preesall, Blackpool who also purchased Leesemanor Artes Chancery 3 VG86-2yr from the same home at £1950.
Scottish breeder, Gavin Struthers, Windygates, Fife, was in the money too, selling two heifers at £2050 each. One, a Lauthority sold giving 36kg to CJ Philipps and Co of Minsterley, Shropshire, with the other, by Cookiecutter Hefty, changing hands producing 40kg and selling to a local producer.
