CATTLE were shown in good bloom at Wallets Marts, on Monday, where a show and sale of store cattle judged by Bruce Watt, Cairntack, marked the firm’s 160th anniversary.

Mr Watt picked a Limousin bullock from Messrs Sharp, Barscarrow, Sandhead, as his champion which later sold to W Purdon and Partners, Straven House, for £1290 at a weight of 608kg.

In reserve was a 428kg Charolais heifer from Messrs Lockhard, Culdoach, that later made £1055 when sold to Tom Clark, Westmuir.

Culdoach also consigned the champion pen of four in the shape of 446kg Charolais bullocks that sold to Mr Watt for £1050.

Selling for the top price of £1370, however, was a Simmental bullock from T Robb, Trolane, Dalry, with the 550 bullocks also selling to 266.9p for Limousins from Glenlee Farms, Shield. They averaged 217.95p or £968.21 at 444kg.

The 247 heifers reached £1235 for a Simmental cross from R Rankine, Mains of Cairnbrock, and 272.2p for Charolais crosses from M and G Barr, Meikle Kirkland. Heifers levelled at 209.6p or £841.19 at 401kg.
