Dairy cattle met a 100% clearance at the July Month-End sale at Beeston Castle Auction, where 152 of the 162 milking cattle entered were forward.

The sale, which incorporated pedigree Holsteins from the Western Holstein Club, also included a major unselected consignment of cows all calved from May onwards from JR and JR Davenport and Sons of Broomhall, Nantwich, who are changing their calving profile to autumn block calving.

They sold to £1750 for a second calved daughter of Jeeves, which had calved eight weeks previously and was giving 40kg. The buyer was ED Morris, Oswestry who also took eight from the same home at £1500 to £1600.

Pedigree cows peaked at £1600 twice for second calvers from the Uphall herd of JD Alston Estates of Diss, Norfolk, for Zelgadis and Wyman daughters selling to JJ and AS Nicholas, Tarporley and to PR and EA Stone of Stone, Staffordshire respectively.

A pedigree second calved Ayrshire from OC Whittaker and Sons, Knutsford, made £1520 to Richard Reade, Tarporley.

The heifer trade was not quite as sharp as it was two weeks previously, but a higher proportion of the entry had been calved for longer.

Lead disclosed price in this section was £1790 paid for a Denmire Royster daughter from WW and D Boow of Millom, Cumbria, purchased by Wilmot Blockley of Tarvin.
