ONLY 33 bulls were entered for the Western Holstein Club’s annual show and sale of bulls at Beeston, of which only 30 were forward selling to a top of 4200gns.
Sale leader was the Wexham Cup winner, Shanael Edward, from the Miller family of Shanael Farms, Evesham, Worcestershire. The trophy is awarded to the bull that gains the most points, not only for his inspection, but also for a combination of his ETA for weight of fat and protein, his sire’s Type Merit and dam and grand dam’s classification, with Edward scoring 931 points.
A son Seagull-Bay Silver, bred from seven generations of VG or Ex cows from the UFM-Dubs Eroy family, he was knocked down to MN Davies, Clunderwen, Pembrokeshire.
Next in the bidding stakes at 3050gns was the reserve winner for the Wexham Cup, Woodmarsh Linsey, another Seagull Bay Silver son, this time from Mick and Jean Gould's Woodmarsh herd from Shropshire. Bred from the Lyme family and scoring 885 points, he sold to Cox Farming Company of Marston, Stafford.
Another from the Goulds then made 2700gns selling to A and DJ Gregory, Litton, Buxton. This was Woodmarsh Merganzer, a son of Mr Moviestar Mardigras which traces back to the Hanoverhill Meggie family on the female side.
Two bulls from Richard Pilkington’s Aintree herd from Wrexham, North Wales, also made the grade, including Aintree Newlyn, a son of Springhill-Oh Iron J Pirate from the Nuggett line, purchased by Allen Family Farm, of Hanmer, Whitchurch, for 2300gns.
Minutes later, the Ladys Manor Olympian son, Aintree Lenard, made 2100 gns to D and SC Sutton, Oakhanger, Crewe.
