Prices peaked at 8000gns at Bill and Margaret Bruce’s reduction sale of the Logie pedigree Aberdeen-Angus herd from Ellon, last weekend, when a cow and calf outfit was knocked down to neighbouring new breeder, David Stubbs, AJR Fasteners, Milton of Collieston, Ellon.
The sale, staged at United Auctions, Stirling, last weekend, saw this price paid for the six-year-old cow, Logie Eyebright KO22, a daughter of Logie Banner, which is a son of the Canadian bull, Hi Diamond Greenstone and bred from the Blelack Blackstaff-sired Logie Eyebright F481.
A sister to the herd’s highest priced bull, Logie Extra Special, which sold privately to Kincardine Castle, Auchterarder, she changed hands with her February-born heifer calf at foot by Blelack Evril and having run with Evril.
Mr Stubbs also went to 3000gns and 2800gns for females. Dearest was Logie Jewel Erica M303, a four year-old by Blelack Lord Hidalgo, which sold with February-born heifer calf by Idvies Eugene, and served to Idvies Kollar.
And making 2800gns was Logie Ermine H692, a 2008-born cow by Nightingale D’Arcy, which also sold with a heifer calf at foot.
Welsh breeder, GV Jones, Hirdre Uhgedern, bought the second top priced lot at 4400gns. This was the four-year-old cow, Logie Elegant M284, by Idvies Kollar, out of Heathland Elegant, a daughter of the Canadian import, KBJ Preferred Stock. She sold with her March-born heifer calf by Idives Eugene and served to Blelack Evril.
The stock bull, Blelack Evril, a five-year-old son of Netherallan Peter Pershore out of Blelack Evora, then made 4000gns selling to William Brown, buying for his Drumdow herd from Turnberry, Girvan, Ayrshire.
Three other lots went under the hammer for 3000gns including the six-year-old cow, Logie Lavender K953, by Netherton Flyhalf. She sold with her heifer calf by Rawburn Enoch, to Northumberland breeder, PA Robson, Chathill.
Logie Evangelina M276, a similarly aged female, this time by Idvies Kollar, sold for the same money to RC Turnbull and Son, Foxfoot, Coxwood, York. Included in this transaction which sold served to Idvies Eugene, was Evangelina’s February-born heifer calf, also by Eugene.
Last to make 3000gns was Logie Delia, a rising two-year-old heifer by Rawburn Enoch, which sold served to Rawburn Enoch. The buyer was Stewart Craft, Balgedie Grove, Glenrothes.
Outwith the Logie reduction sale, the collective sale of Aberdeen-Angus females peaked at 2800gns for Balsar Karama Chicha L101 from PH and RM Close, Littleton, Turnberry, Girvan. This 2011-born cow is by Balsar Proud Traveller J070 and out of Balsar Karam Chacha J058. She sold with a bull calf by Balsar Kingdom N147 to JS Fleming, Glenluce.
At 2500gns, A Mitchell, Biggar, bought Balsar Eveblynette M113 from the same home. This Balsar Klondyke K078 daughter also sold with a bull calf at foot.
