Bullocks averaged 209p and heifers cashed in at 199p, at United Auctions’ sale of 625 store cattle, cast cows and forward cattle, at Stirling, last week.
Leading the bullock trade at 242.50p per kg was a 268kg Limousin cross from East Gartfarren with a 576kg Charolais cross from Greensburn making £1255.
Heifers hit a top price 250p for a 416kg Limousin cross from Muirhead and £1150 for a 548kg Simmental cross from East Merkland.
The sale of 67 black and white bullocks averaged 1313.4p with a lead price of 147.4p paid for a 360kg Holstein cross from Bandirran and £710 for a 570kg Holstein Friesian from Westerhill.
The sale of 235 cast cows  averaged out at 111.5p selling to 182.3p per kg for a Limousin cross from Carslae and £1570 per head for the same cross from Whitrighill.
Dairy cows (16) peaked at 104.1p for an Ayrshire cross from Easter Greenhill and £795 for a Holstein Friesian from Claylands, to level at 82.66p.

A GOOD show of weaned cattle was forward for Harrison and Heatherington’s weekly sale of store and weaned calves, at Carlisle, which attracted an entry of 563 head and a lead price of £1325 for a Limousin cross steer from Messrs Wilkinson, Arkleby House.
Heifers peaked at £1265 for Limousins from Messrs Grice, Newtown, Carlisle, with black and whites to £980 for Friesians from Messrs Pearson, Wavercroft, Wigton.
Weaned calves hit a top of £1180 for an 11-month-old Limousin bull from Sarkshields, with heifers selling to £1150 for a British Blue cross from Grassing.

QUALITY weaned calves met a strong demand at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale of 813 store cattle, 19 breeding cattle and 174 OTMs.
Bullocks (446) averaged 214.8p having sold to 290.2p per kg for 255kg Limousin crosses from Hastain, Bayhead, and £1330 for a 690kg Simmental cross from Inshes, Inverness.
Heifers (363) levelled at 201.0p, selling to 288.1p for a 295kg British Blue cross from Balmaglaster (Cameron), Spean Bridge, and £1185 for a 520kg Charolais cross from Torgormack, Beauly.
A 450kg British Blue cross cow from 21 Roag, Dunvegan, led the cow trade at 193.3p per kg, with an 890kg South Devon cross from Drummond Farm, Evanton, securing the lead gross price of £1270. Overall average was 94.2p for 167.

STORE cattle averages improved on the week at Aberdeen and Northern Marts sale of 525 head at Thainstone, where 302 bullocks levelled at 213.3p per kg (+2.7p) and 218 heifers balanced at 205.8p (+0.8p).
Top price per kg was 300p paid for a pair of 300kg Limousin cross heifers from Balmadies, Forfar, with the same home also leading the bullocks at 270.3p for 296kg entries of the same cross.
Lead price per head was £1385 for a 694kg Limousin cross from Burn of Aultmore, Newmill, with a 614kg Angus heifer from Kirkton, Gospel, making £1240.
Orkney and Shetland bullocks peaked at 217p for 410kg Charolais from Myres, South Ronaldsay and £1005 for a 500kg Limousin from Meadowpark, Kirkwall. Heifers sold to 228.7p for a 446kg Simmental from Myres and £1205 for a 586kg Simmental from Workwell, Orphir.
The company also sold 2828 store lambs, island, breeding and feeding sheep, where store lambs peaked at £80 for Beltex from Tannachie, Stonehaven, breeding rams sold to £360 for a Suffolk shearling from Newton of Crathie, Ballater and feeding sheep hit a top of £113.50 for a Beltex ewe from Mains of Culsh, New Deer.

MORE than 600 head of store and suckled calves were catalogued for United Auctions’ Christmas sale at Islay Auction Mart, where averages improved on the year.
Bullock calves balanced out at 224p per kg or £699 per head, against 218p or £695 last year, with the  heifers cashing in at 203p or £626 compared to the 2015 event at 201p or £558.

CATTLE averages levelled at 207p and 205p per kg for bullocks and heifers respectively, at Caledonian Marts’ store sale of 263 head on Monday.
Top price amongst the bullocks was 262p per kg paid for a Charolais from A and G MacDougall, Burnbank, Kilmacolm, and £1120 for an entry from A McKenzie and Partners, Ardgate, Gartocharn.
Leading the heifer trade at 225p was an entry from C and I Herd, Easter Jawcraig, Falkirk, with another from J Dunn, Martnaham Mains, Dalrymple, making the lead price per head of £1050.  
Black and white bullocks levelled at 146p having sold to 162p from Merslaugh Farm, Stranraer and £730 from E Hamilton and Partners, Gilmeadowland, Maddiston.
