IT was the supreme champion from Messrs Priestly, Cracrop, Brampton, which went on to sell for the leading price of £1934.50, or 265p per kg at Borderway Mart’s Christmas show and sale, where an outstanding show of 64 bullocks and heifers were forward.
Weighing in at 730kg, was the home-bred Limousin cross bullock by Garrowby Hurricane, out of a British Blue cross Limousin cow, which later sold to the judge, Messrs Webster, of Taylors Farm Shop, Ormskirk, Lancashire.
Next best, at £1827.93, was a Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Grainger, Kiln Close Farm, Wigton, which sold to Messrs Mullholland butchers.
An impressive entry of 300 prime sheep was also forward, which saw the champion pen come from JP Graham and Son, The Wrey, Wigton, with four Dutch Texel cross lambs which weighed in at 39kg and went on to sell for £230 or 589.7p to the judge, Miss Clare Cropper, of Croppers Family Butchers, Accrington.
Beltex lambs (48kg) from the same home also took the reserve champion rosette, and later sold for £160 to Mulholland Butchers, Great Orton.
