LIMOUSIN crosses from D Lumgair and Sons, Gask, scooped both the supreme and reserve championship, as well as the lead price of £2774 or 475p per kg for the reserve champion at Lawrie and Symington’s recent Christmas show and sale at Forfar.
Sale leader was a 584kg bullock, which was knocked down to Falconer Family Butchers, Arbroath, while the supreme champion, another Limmy bullock weighing 528kg, was purchased by judges, Scott and George Jarron of Scot Bros, Dundee, for 420p or £2217.60.
A Limousin heifer weighing 520kg from JA Peters and Sons, West Bog, stood best animal of opposite sex to the champion and sold for the second top price of £2600 and achieved the top price per kg of 500p when sold to Fleming Butchers, Arbroath.
Three Beltex cross lambs scaling 41kg from Davie and Elizabeth Stewart, Mains of Dalrulzion, took the championship and sold for the top price in the prime lamb section of £118 to MJ Stark, Milton of Campsie.
Reserve champion and selling for £108 was a trio of Charollais crosses weighing 48kg from D Smith, Scobshaugh, purchased by WE Fairlie, Letham.
Outwith the show, 585 prime lambs sold to average 166.5p (-1p on the week) with heavier lambs proving harder to cash. Top prices were 215.9p for a pen of 44kg Bleu du Maines from Scobshaugh, and £99 for a 47kg Texel from AJ Main, Hallhill.
