BEN Radley’s Charolais cross heifer from Loaningfoot, Dumfries, stood overall champion and went on to sell for the top price per head at C and D Auction Marts’ Christmas prime sale at Dumfries, last week.
Weighing in at 675kg, this 18-month-old, which was purchased from Caledonian Marts’ spring show in March, was knocked down for £2025 or 300p per kg to the judge, Sam Carlisle of Border Meats, Lockerbie.
Top price per kg at 320p was the 490kg Galloway bullock from Kilnstown Farms Bewcastle, which was purchased by butcher, Jimmy Craig of Ballards, Castle Douglas.
Standing reserve champion to Mr Radley’s heifer was another Galloway bullock from Maxwellton Estate Farm, Shancastle. Scaling in at 750kg, he sold for 222p or £1665 again to the judge for Border Meats, Lockerbie.
Among the prime sheep, Beltex lambs weighing 52kg from J Muir and Son, Cleughbrae, stood champion, and sold for £156 or 300p to Mr Jason Tucker of Ponytypool.
Reserve was a pair of 49kg Texels from Gillesbie Farms, Lockerbie, that were knocked down for £126 or 257p to Creetown butcher, William Lindsay.
