Forfar
A GOOD show of 482 prime lambs met a sharper trade at Lawrie and Symington’s sale, last week, to average 169.5p per kg – a rise of 17.5p on the week.
Selling for the top prices of 197.8p per kg or £90 per head was a 45.5kg Beltex from A and PM Gauld, Fawsyde.
A smaller show of 70 cast sheep peaked at £105 for a mix of Suffolk and Texel ewes from CL Wylie, Balbrydie.

Newton Stewart
SELLING through Craig Wilson, last week, were 2233 prime lambs which rose by 11.6p on the week to average 170.6p per kg.
Texels weighing 50kg from Nether Cleugh led at £85.50 with three Beltex from K Saunders, Barvennan, selling for 200p per kg.
Leading the Blackface entry at £77.50 were heavy lambs from Drannandow Farms, with 37kg Blackies from Markdhu, at 180p.
Cast sheep (275) reached £133 for a Charollais tup from T Marshall, Mains of Tigg, while ewes sold to £85.50 for Texel crosses from J Howie, Auchentibbert.

Dumfries
BEST quality sorts were keenly sought after at C and D Auction Marts’ sale of 1008 prime lambs at Dumfries, last week, where more Mule and Blackface sorts were forward.
Selling for the top prices of 193p per kg and £87 per head were Texels from Druidhall, Braco.
Cast sheep (531) met a sharper trade selling to a top of £117.50 for Texel rams from Drumburn with ewes to £112.50 for Suffolks from Rigghead.

Thainstone
PRIME cattle averages rose on the previous event at last week’s sale through Aberdeen and Northern Marts, when three bullocks levelled at 214.5p per kg (+11.4p) and 17 heifers averaged 214.5p (+6.7p).
Leading the entry at 242p was a 580kg Limousin heifer from Auchmaliddie Mains, Maud, with another weighing 600kg from the same home topping the gross trade at £1416.
Bullocks sold to 221p and £1295.80 for Limousins weighing 560kg and 620kg, respectively, from Whiteside, Tullynessle.
A Limousin from Jacobshall, Gamrie, topped the 39 beef cows at 139.2p and £1225. They cashed in to average 111.6p.
Lambs sold to 208.3p and £100 for 48kg Texels from East Sandend, Cruden Bay. They averaged 160.4p (-3.8p) with the 298 SQQ lambs up to 45.5kg at 171p (-4.6p).

Longtown
AVERAGES rose on the week at C and D Auction Marts’ sale, last week, although it was only export-type and light weight lambs that improved.
The 1978 on offer sold to a top of 242p per kg for a pen of Beltex from G Mitchinson and Sons, High Greenhill, and £110 per head for Texels from J Runciman and Sons, Allanshaws.
They averaged 170p with SQQs at 177p.
A large show of 5078 cast sheep reached a top pricee of £156 paid for heavy Texels from Burray with rams to £138 for Texels from Broomhills.
The 39 prime cattle forward saw trade peak at 233p per kg paid for a pair of Limousin heifers from James and John Taylor.

Stirling (UA)
UNITED Auctions sold 4300 prime lambs, last week, which cashed in to average 165.12p per kg.
Beltex led throughout with a pen from Coilavoulin leading the pence per kg section at 217p with another pen from Harviesmailing at £97.
Texel ewes from Humeston topped the 1916 cast sheep at £138.

Dingwall
CATTLE from Drummond Farm, Evanton, led Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale of 44 prime cattle, on Tuesday, when a 540kg Aberdeen-Angus cross heifer sold for 221p per kg and a 615kg Limousin cross bullock realised 215p.
Heading up the gross trade at £1455.30 was a 735kg Charolais cross bullock from Shawpark, Glaickmore, while heifers reached £1360.10 for a Limousin cross weighing 670kg from Coach House, Dingwall.
Averages included six bullocks at 206.6p (+0.6p on the week) with 38 heifers at 208.3p (-0.8p).
New season lambs (379) sold to a top of 197.1p for 35kg Beltex crosses from Drummuie Farm, Golspie, with Beltex crosses weighing 46.5kg from Torgorm, Conon Bridge, leading the gross trade at £90.
They averaged 167.6p (-2.2p) with 207 SQQs at 173.3p (+0.4p).
Feeding sheep (35) sold to £40 for a Cheviot ewe from Fairview, Nethybridge.

Castle Douglas
QUALITY lots sold easiest with heavier lambs easing back slightly at Wallets Marts’ sale of 1409 prime lambs on Tuesday.
They sold to average 169.25p (SQQ up to 45.5kg averaged 173.57p) having peaked at 238.1p and £100 for Beltex crosses from Fiona Shedden, Balgerran.
Cast sheep (223) sold to a top of £118 for a Texel tup from Ingleston, Gelston.

Stirling (Cal)
ALL classes of lambs sold easier on the week at Tuesday’s sale of 2492 on Tuesday which cashed in to average 164.3p per kg (-9.4p on the week) with SQQs at 167.4p (-10.4p).
They sold to £90 per head and 203p per kg for Beltex from R Downie, Newton of Crathie, with Beltex from Doune Farms also making £90.
The 515 cast ewes averaged £55 and sold to £128 for Texels from Riverview.

Carlisle
DESPITE not operating on the usual sale day, Harrison and Hetherington had forward a strong entry of 1905 prime lambs on Tuesday.
Topping the sale at 238.9p per kg and £96.80 per head were Beltex cross lambs from Messrs Little, Hollands.

Lanark
NEW season lambs cashed in to average 162.4p per kg for 2144 sold through Lawrie and Symington on Tuesday.
Texels weighing 45.5kg from Robert and Margaret Struthers, Collielaw, led the trade at 203.3p and £91.50.
The 490 cast sheep cashed in to level at £59.31 and sold to £133.50 for Texel ewes from Mayfield.

Ayr
ALL classes of lambs proved harder to cash at Wednesday’s sale of 1462 prime lambs through Craig Wilson.
Averaging 158.7p per kg (-11.3p on the week), they sold to 188.9p and £85 per head for 45kg Beltex from J Wilson, Wheatfield, with more Beltex from Orchardton also hitting £85.
Cast sheep (530) sold easier on the week and to £119 for a pen of Texel ewes from G and M Wardrop, South Craigton.
The overall ewe average was £46.74, which included 388 Blackies.

Huntly
ON Wednesday, United Auctions sold 743 lambs which sold easier on the previous week’s strong trade witnessed.
They reached 173p per kg for 37.5kg continentals from Craigieview, Aberchirder, with 54kg Texels from Cairncoullie, Glenkindie, leading the gross trade at £81.50.
Texels from Sherrifseat topped the 300 cast ewes at £93.
