Stirling
JUST shy of 1500 store cattle and 155 cast cows and forward cattle, were cashed at United Auctions’ sale last week where bullocks averaged 210.32p per kg and heifers levelled at 217.86p.
Charolais crosses led the bullock sections, with the 896 bullocks selling to 273.20p for a 388kg entry from Dykes and £1310 for a 610kg stot from Holehouse.
The 508 heifers peaked at 269.80p for a 278kg Charolais from Taiglim, with a 550kg Limousin cross from Graystale selling for the top gross price of £1210.
Black and white bullocks (89) averaged 138.17p, having sold to 177.60p for a 428kg Holstein Friesian from Knockrivoch and £930 for a 642kg similar cross from Drumbuie.
The 144 cast cows peaked at 170.30p for a Limousin cross from Monzie and £1530 for a Charolais cross from Newhouse of Glamis, with the overall beef average being 119.26p. The 11 dairy cast cows levelled at 93.39p from a lead price of 120.90p for a Holstein Friesian from Hillend and £895 from Aitkenhead.

Carlisle
CHAROLAIS crosses from Blocklerigg, Lockerbie, led Harrison and Hetherington’s first store sale of the year, securing the top two highest prices in the bullock and heifer sections.
A smaller offering than usual saw a lead price of £1230 for a steer, with a heifer from Blocklerigg selling for £1230.
Leading the weaned calf trade at £980 and £970, were nine-month-old Limousin cross bullocks from Messrs Thompson and Baird, Midtown.

STORE hoggs met a strong demand at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 2320 hoggs and feeding sheep at Thainstone, where 151 cast cows and bulls were also sold.
Leading the old season lambs, were Suffolks at £70 from West Davoch, Tarland, while feeding ewes and rams peaked at £120 for Texel ewes from Clinterty, New Aberdour.
Beef cows averaged 125.7p having sold to 185.7p per kg for a 630kg British Blue from Balgairn, Ballater and £1330 for a 915kg Charolais from Quoynee, Halkirk.  
Dairy cows hit a top of 88.6p per kg for a 660kg Friesian from West Knock, Stuartfield and £605 for a 785kg Friesian from Braehead, Drummuir.

Ayr
ALL classes of store cattle met a firm trade at Craig Wilson’s sale of 208 head at Ayr, where a top price of £1200 was paid for a Limousin heifer from Blairbowie, or 247.6p per kg for Limousin steers from Arnsow.
Arnsow also topped the pence per kg section amongst the heifers at 231.8p, with Charolais crosses from Carsloe, leading the gross trade in the steers at £1150.
Overall, 105 bullocks average 218.5p per kg or £924.48 per head with 97 heifers at 214.5p or £898.51. The 26 black and white bullocks levelled at 145.9p or £717.12, having sold to 155p per kg or £930 from Watston.
A poorer show for quality amongst the 586 store hoggs peaked at £64 for Suffolk crosses from Mountop, Paisley.

A LARGE attendance of buyers ensured a buoyant trade at C and D Auction Marts’ sale of
1670 store hoggs and 784 cast ewes and rams.
Hoggs peaked at £81 for Texels from East Arndarroch, with cast sheep selling to £125 for Texel ewes from Dressertland Cottage.
On Monday, the firm sold 243 store cattle which saw 176 bullocks average 200.3p, 61 heifers level at 195p and six bulls cash in at 173p.

Quoybrae
OLD season prime lambs sold to 181.3p per kg or £78 per head for a pen of 32kg Beltex from Achavanich, Latheron, at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale at Quoybrae on Monday.
Texels also topped the entry of 146 store hoggs, with Clevanagreen, Skirza, selling a pen at £74.50 per head with the overall average levelling at £52.34.
Cheviots from Messrs Crowe, Overton, Mid-Clyth, led the entry of 30 feeding ewes and rams which averaged £54.37, selling at £90.

MOST sheep forward headed south for further finishing at Wallets Marts’ sale of 1548 store hoggs, cast ewes and rams, last weekend, where Suffolk crosses from JJ and I Baird, Potterland, topped the trade selling at £75.
A Blackface and a Suffolk ram led the cast trade with both making £100 for Cullinaw and Upper Barr, respectively.

SOME 359 store cattle and 818 store hoggs and feeding ewes were sold at Caledonian Marts’ sale at Stirling on Monday, where bullocks averaged 214p per kg and heifers cashed in at 208p.
Bullocks peaked at 276p from Glenside Farms and £1180 from East Kerse, Lochwinnoch, with heifers selling to 226p from Mains of Burnbank, Blairdrummond and £1200 from Wester Braco, Airdrie.
Leading the young bull trade at 182p and £870 was a Limousin from Balircessnock, Port of Menteith, with the section averaging 122p per kg.
Black and white bullocks hit a top of 172p from Wester Whitefield, Dunfermline and £920 from Gryfeside, Kilmacolm, to level at 136p.
More store hoggs could have been sold to the vendors advantage with trade peaking at £64 for Suffolks from Balcachie, Girvan.

Lockerbie
TOP price per kg at Harrison and Hetherington’s first show and sale of 240 store cattle at Lockerbie, on Tuesday, was 316.9p per kg, paid for a home-bred heifer from Gary Bell, Haas Side.
The same home also produced the overall champion, an eight-month-old Limousin cross heifer which made £1080.
Lead price overall however, was £1230 paid for a Limousin cross steer from Messrs Ewart, Belridding Farm, Dumfries.  
The reserve champion, a Limousin heifer from J Common and Son, Crossdykes, Lockerbie, made £1225.
