TOP price at Harrison and Hetherington's opening show and sale of 586 store cattle at Kirkby Stephen, was £1505 paid for a 16-month-old Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormiside.

She was purchased by Messrs Cooper, Troughton Hall, Broughton In Furness.

The pre-sale show, saw the judge, Walter Dandie, West Lothian, buy his choice of champion at £1500. This was a similarly aged Limousin cross steer, also from Messrs Sowerby who sold 20 head of cattle to average £1367.33.

The reserve, a 13-month-old British Blue cross steer from Messrs Pedley, Oaktree Farm, Barbon, realised £1355 to Messrs Barnett, Shap.

By the end of the day the overall average for steers and heifers was 1015.65.
