Forfar
PRIME bullocks averaged 227p per kg for nine sold at Lawrie Symington’s Forfar mart, last Wednesday, where they hit a top of 236p and £1479 for a 627kg Limousin from Nethermyres from WE Fairlie, Letham.
In the heifers, 16 levelled at 231p and sold to 255p for a 570kg Limousin from West Bog and to £1509 for a Limousin weighing 611kg from Gask.
Heavier lambs were harder to cash but still in demand, when 824 prime lambs averaged 161p. Topping the trade to £91 was a Beltex from W Mather and Son, Shandford and to 193p for Texels from WD Farquharson, Cairncortie.

Dumfries
ON Wednesday, prime cattle met a good trade at C and D Auctions Marts, with Limousins topping both the heifers and bullocks.
Bullocks sold to 222.5p from D and R Cornthwaite, Balgrayhill, while heifers hit a top of 215.5p twice from Balgrayhill and Thwaite.
OTM cattle sold sharper on the week and peaked at £1330 for Limousins from Waterside, while Charolais bulls from Shancastle sold for £1356.
In the sheep, prime hoggs sold to a top of 179p or £73.50 for Texels from Cocklicks.

Thainstone
ABERDEEN and Northern Marts had forward 45 prime cattle, last Thursday, at Thainstone, where 12 bullocks averaged 194.1p per kg (-3.5p) and 27 heifers levelled at 209.6p (-1.6p).
Leading the bullocks to 219p was a 615kg Limousin from Whiteside, Tullynessle, and to £1438.20 for a 705kg British Blue from Uppermill, Hatton.
Heifers sold to 237p for a Limousin weighing 570kg and to £1382.60 for a 620kg Limousin from Auchmaliddie Mains, Maud.
Three young bulls averaged 180p, with a Charolais (735kg) from Bardnaclavan, Bridge of Westfield, selling for 187p and £1374.45.
Old season lambs (2071) sold to 206.3p for a 40kg Beltex from Nether Savoch, Longside, and £91 for a 54kg Beltex from Newton of Crathie, Ballater. They averaged 166.4p, with the SQQ (up to 45.5kg) for 1117 to average 178.4p (+6.6p).

Stirling (Cal)
HEIFERS topped the trade at Caledonian Marts’ prime sale, last week, where a Limousin weighing 245p per kg from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Octhermuthill, Muthill, sold for 245p and a British Blue from the same home to £1568.16. They sold to average 217p.
Bullocks averaged 208p and hit a top of 240p for a Limousin from Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, and to £1762.20 from S and JE Andrew, Letter, Dunkeld.
In the young bulls, a Limousin from R Graham and Sons, Airthrey Kerse, Bridge of Allan, sold for 218p and to £1627.20 from W Dick and Sons, Mains of Throsk, with OTM cattle to 200p and £1404 for a British Blue from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn.
Beef cows (88) levelled at 121p and sold for 156p and £1380 for a Limousin from A Galbraith, Upper Kinneal, Linlithgow, while dairy cows peaked at 132p from R and W Waugh, Summerhouse, Avonbridge, and £960 from J Pollock and Sons, Bonnyhill, Bonnybridge.
On Tuesday, 2045 hoggs averaged 162.6p (-2.6p on the week) and sold to a top of £100 for a lamb which was donated to the Orchid Testicular Cancer Awareness, and to 198p for a pen of five Beltex lambs weighing 56kg from Doune Farms, West Lundie.
Also forward were 370 cast ewes, which saw trade slightly easier on the week, to average £49.24. Tups averaged £42.14 and sold to £110 for a Texel from A MacGregor, Allanfauld, Kilsyth.

Stirling (UA)
UNITED Auctions saw 3430 prime lambs average 163.9p per kg at United Auctions, last week, where Beltex from Carriston sold for £96 and Beltex from Kinloch to 218p.
Ewes and tups (1353) sold to £111 for Texels from Braevalloch.

Ayr
HOGGS sold to a top price of 195.2p per kg at Craig Wilson’s sale of 1409 sheep, where 1154 hoggs averaged 166.1p (-0.2p on the week).
Topping the trade was a pen of Beltex hoggs from W Brown, Caprickhill, Kilmarnock.
Forward were 255 cast ewes and tups, where a pen of Texel ewes from WB Bryson, Grassmilles Way, Mauchline, sold for £134, with a pen of Texel tups from W and A Watson, Muir, Mauchline, selling for £97.50.

Lanark
A LIMOUSIN heifer weighing 572kg from D Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, sold for the top price of 254p per kg at Lanark, on Monday, where Lawrie and Symington had forward 45 prime cattle and young bulls.
In the cows and bulls (141), a Limousin cow sold for £1215 from DM Gilchrist, Newmill, Dolphinton, while a British Blue from JA McGarva, Nether Abington, sold for 177p.
The firm also sold 2884 prime hoggs which averaged 169p and sold to 223.1p for a pen of 39kg Beltex from JS Shaw, West Letham, Saline, and to £99 for a 49kg Texel from R and M Struthers, Collielaw, Carluke.
Cast sheep (613) levelled at £54.15 and hit a top of £135.50 for Texel ewes from Thincare.

St Boswells
SELLING through Harrison and Hetherington, at St Boswells, on Monday, were 21 bullocks which averaged 220p per kg (+0.5p on the week) and 38 heifers which levelled at 224p (+8.0p on the week)
Lead price was 243p for a heifer from Penston, while bullocks sold to 238p from Bee Edge, with top price per head being £1424.84 from Longnewton.
Beef cows (98) averaged 132p and sold to 193p (+6.7p on the week) from Upper Nisbet and to £1490.98 from Timpendean.
Selling sharper on the week were 1359 hoggs which sold to a top of £95 or 225.3p from Crookston, with 535 ewes selling to £91 for Texels from Corsbie and Charolais tups from Symtington to £85.

Carlisle
HELD at Carlisle, on Monday, was one of the largest shows of cast cows, bulls and prime cattle, which saw Limousins from Messrs Story, Jackson Rigg, Longtown, dominate both the bullock and heifer section.
Bullocks sold to a top of £1573.35 or 334.5p per kg, while heifers peaked at £1445.85 and 233.5p.
A large entry of 126 prime bulls saw a Limousin cross from Messrs Lawson, Stubsgill, Workington, sell for £1615.25 or 227.5p, with black and whites selling to £1172.86 for a British Friesian from Messrs Mattocks, Aulby, Penrith and to177.5p for the same breed from Messrs Preston, Wed Holme, Wigton.
Cast cows (447) saw black and whites sell dearer on the week, with a British Blue cross weighing 852kg from Messrs Bell, Woodhall, topping the trade at £1657.
Black and whites reached 155.5p

Ayr
PRIME cattle met a similar trade on the week at Craig Wilson, where nine heifers averaged 217.27p per kg and sold to a top of 235p or £1222 for a Limousin heifer from Claycrop.
In the cast ring, 28 beef cows averaged 120.94p and sold to £1080 or 151.p for a Luing from Moorfield, while dairy cattle levelled at 94.37p and peaked at £920 for a Friesian from Culscadden or 118.1p for a Friesian from West Park.
Five bulls averaged 122.25p, with a Limousin from Mid Knockglass selling to £1360 and another of the same breed from Mahaar to 141.3p.

Castle Douglas
HEAVYWEIGHT hoggs sold 10p dearer on the week at Wallets Marts on Tuesday, where hoggs reached £85 twice for Beltex from Messrs Kerr, Midtown, Castle Douglas, and for Texels from Messrs Williamson, Breckoniehill, Castle Douglas. The 1547 forward, averaged 166.21, with SQQ’s levelling at 167.97p.
Also forward were 218 cast sheep which saw Texels from Castlehill sell for the top price of £80.  

Dingwall
AT Dingwall on Tuesday, 11 prime bullocks averaged out at 208.8p per kg (+2.6p), while 24 heifers levelled at 204.2p (-3.2p).
Leading the bullocks to 216p, was a 650kg Limousin cross from Udale, Poytnzfield and another of the same breed weighing 670kg to £1420.40 from Drummond Farm, Evanton.
In the heifers, Udale produced the top pence per kilo too, selling a 605kg Limousin cross for 219p, while an Aberdeen Angus cross weighing in at 725kg from Kindeace, Alness, sold for £1355.75.
Dingwall and Highland Marts also had forward 787 old season lambs, which levelled at 163.2p (+0.8p) and 564 SQQ’s to average 167.5p (+0.9p).
Lambs sold to a top of 200p or £84 for 42kg Beltex crosses from Torgorm, Conon Bridge, while 100 feeding sheep peaked at £76 for a Texel ewe from Invertomie, Kingussie.

Stirling (UA)
UNITED Auctions saw 3430 prime lambs average 163.9p per kg at United Auctions’ prime sale, last week, where Beltex from Carriston sold for £96 and Beltex from Kinloch to 218p.
