Forfar
SELLING through Lawrie and Symington, last week, were 30 prime and OTM cattle, where eight bullocks averaged 234p per kg and 16 heifers levelled at 237p.
Leading the bullocks at 242p and £1570 was a Limousin weighing 649kg from Nethermyres, while heifers hit a top of 260p and £1557 for a 599kg Limousin from West Bog.
Cows (six) sold to £890 for a Limousin from Myreside.
A poorer show of 369 prime hoggs averaged 158p (-3.3p on the week).
Topping the trade at 186.3p or £88.50 were Beltex from AD Beaton, Newmill of Inshewan, while 90 cast ewes and rams sold to £76.50 for a pair of Suffolk ewes from Southtown of Melgund.

Thainstone
PRIME bullocks averaged 201.7p (-7.5p on the week) per kg for 12 at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale, last week, while 23 heifers averaged 211.3p (+1.7p).
Bullocks peaked at 223p for a 630kg Limousin from South Chrichie, St Katherines, and £1463 for a Limousin weighing 700kg from Gellan Farms, Aboyne.
Amongst the heifers, a British Blue weighing 525kg from Whiteside, Tullynessle, sold for 242p, while a Charolais weighing 660kg from Gellan Farms made £1544.
Five young bulls sold to 185p for a 660kg Limousin and £1366.70 for a 790kg Limousin from Mains of Drumwhindle, Elgin. They averaged 156.4p.
The 1528 prime sheep, saw old season lambs level at 167p per kg (+6p), with 755 SQQs at 179.3p (+9.5p).
Leading the trade at 207.3p and £85 were Beltex scaling 41kg from Sheep Park Farms, Bridge of Marnoch.

Stirling (UA)
BELTEX hoggs from Luckenburn sold to £94 or 209p per kg through United Auctions’ sale,  where 3451 sold to average 161p.
Ewes (1143) sold to £95 for Beltex from Luckenburn, while Texel tups from Wedderlie sold for £84.

Stirling (Cal)
LIMOUSINS from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn, topped the bullocks and the heifers at Caledonian Marts’ prime sale of 100 head, where both sections averaged 202p per kg.
Bullocks sold to 238p twice from Learielaw and to £1692.80 for Charolais from C Smith, South Flanders, Kippen, while heifers sold to 248p for Limousins from Learielaw, and to £1493.44 for a Limousin from J and J Wylie, Knockhouse, Dunfermline.
Young bulls reached 186p for a Limousin from J Gibb, Giffordland, Dalry, and £1003.40 from P Quigley, Harvieston, Gorebridge, to average 182p.
The sale of 64 cast cows and bulls, saw beef cows sell to 139p from Forestmill, Alloa, and to £1170 from Overton, Dalry.
Dairy cows hit a top of 111p and £840 from Meldrum, Blairdrummond.
On Tuesday, 1292 hoggs levelled at 172.4p  (+12.3p on the week) selling to £96 and 215p for 41kg Beltex from Doune Farms, West Lundie.
Cast ewes (298) averaged £65.64 (+£10.21) hitting a top of £85 for Suffolks from Pirnhall, while 38 tups sold to £111 from Victoria.

Longtown
ALL classes sold sharper on the week at Longtown, when C and D Auctions Marts sold 4703 prime hoggs to average 170.4p per kg, with SQQs levelling at 174.6p.
Topping the sale at 249p were Beltex from Gelston Castle, Castle Douglas, while Beltex from Conon Brae, Dingwall, sold to £106.
A similar show of 3115 cast ewes and rams saw heavy ewes £6-£8 dearer on the week. Leading at £152 were Texel cross Millennium Bleu ewes from J Chrichton, Louchrigg.
Rams sold to £118 for Bluefaced Leicesters from Easter Dawyck.

Dumfries
AT Dumfries, C and D Auctions Marts sold 53 prime cattle, where a Charolais cross heifer from Horseholm, led the trade selling at 214p per kg.
OTM cattle met a strong demand, with cows selling to £1244.10  for a Simmental from Newbie Mains and to 144p for a Holstein from Brownfield.
A plainer offering of 365 prime hoggs saw prices peak at 188p from Barnbarroch.
Cast ewes and rams sold cheaper on the week having sold to a top price of £100.50 for Bluefaced Leicester rams from A Brown, Macqueston, Tynron.

Huntly
HOGGS sold easier on the week through United Auctions’ Huntly centre, where 1016 sold to a top of 191p per kg for 44kg Texels from Hilton of Culsh, New Deer, and £86 for a 53kg Beltex from Netherton Croft, Grange.
Heavy ewes sold sharper, with leaner types selling easier on the last sale.
The 582 forward peaked at £80 for Suffolk crosses from Wester Allathan.

Ayr
A SMALLER show of prime hoggs met a dearer trade through Craig Wilson’s sale on Monday, when 1119 averaged 169.5p (+6.9p on the week) having sold to 209.3p per kg for a pen of 43kg Beltex from W and D Jack, West Kilbride, and £93 from W Watson, Muir.
Selling sharper on the week the entry of 462 cast ewes and tups, saw ewes sell to £137.50 for Texels from H McPhee, North Lodge, Dundonald, to average £48.59, and tups to £94.50 for a pen of continental crosses from R and M Thomson, Keirs Farm, Dalmellington.
On Tuesday, the firm sold 154 prime and cast cattle, where 10 heifers averaged 222.5p or £1193.56 having sold to 232p twice and £1276.50 for Limousins from Boreland.
Beef cows (27) levelled at 119.6p and peaked at £860 for a Limousin from East Cauldcoats and 131p for a Simmental from Boreland, while 103 dairy cattle averaged 96.2p and sold to a top of £970 for a Friesian from Townhead of Lambroughton, and 123.7p for a Friesian from West Cairngarroch.

St Boswells
ON Monday, Harrison and Hetherington sold 33 prime bullocks to average 214.8p per kg (+1p on the week), while 47 heifers levelled at 214.8p (+1.5p).
Consignments from Bee Edge topped the sale, with saw bullocks to 244p and heifers to 235p.
Among the beef-bred cast cows, 84 sold to average 129p and peaked at 183p (-4.4p) from Huntington and £1493.82 from Roxburgh Mains.
A smaller show of 932 prime hoggs, was led by Beltex from Wester Deans which sold for £90 with Beltex from Ashcraig making 226.3p.
Ewes (463) averaged £57.73 and sold similar on the week peaking at £100 from Wester Deans, with Suffolks from Upper Bolton topping the ram section at £99 per head.

Carlisle
A GOOD quality entry of 51 prime cattle forward for Harrison and Hetherington’s sale on Monday, saw a top price of £1650.64 for a Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Dent, Elm House, Appleby, and 224.5p per kg for a Limousin heifer from Messrs Little, Greenhill Farm, Wigton.
A Limousin cross from Messrs Smithson, Bloan Farm, Kirkby Stephen, led the bullocks at £1592.1 with another of the same breed from Greenhill, at 223.5p.
Cast cows (312) peaked at £1577 or 199.5p for a British Blue from Messrs Little, Greenhill, while six stock bulls sold to a top of £1449 for a Limousin from Messrs Carlyle, Slealand Burn.
The entry of 55 prime bulls met a sharper trade selling to £1553.57 for a Limousin from Messrs Thompson, Townfoot, Penrith, and 216.5p for a Limousin from Messrs Grainger, Kiln Close, Wigton.
A larger show of prime hoggs also sold sharper on the week, with heavyweights up £5-£6. Leading the trade at £104.80 and 268.7p was a pen of Beltex crosses from D Waugh, Albyfield, while ewes hit a top of £113.50 for Beltex from Messrs Shirvington, Woodbank.

Castle Douglas
FORWARD for Wallets Marts’ sale, on Monday, were 885 prime hoggs which sold to average 169.45p per kg, with SQQs at 170.95p.
Trade was sharper on the week and peaked at £85 for heavyweight Texels from Messrs Williamson and Ross, Breckoniehill, Castle Douglas, and 189p for a pen of export-weight Beltex hoggs from the same home.
Also selling sharper was the entry of 186 cast sheep which hit a top of £89 for Texels from Farhills.
