A TOTAL of 45 two-year-old Hereford bulls went under the hammer at the annual on-farm Ervie sale, where there was a total clearance and bulls sold to average £2408. 

With a mix of new and repeat buyers from the length and breadth of the UK, the out-wintered bulls met a strong demand to top at £6200 for Ervie Advance 151965, an Ervie L1 Achiever 121496 son that boasted strong EBVs including the highest 400 day weight in the group of +69, a terminal index of +33 and a self replacing index of +41. He sold to repeat buyers William and James Montgomery, Colmslie, Galashiels, for Black Baldie production. 

Selling for the second top price of £4200 to Greenmount Agricultural College, Northern Ireland, was Ervie Advance 151950. Another with a high 400 day weight, this son of Ervie L1 Achiever 91147F is out of a proven Dowager cow which has previously bred sons to £4000 and £3000 as well as heifers to £3000. 

Another by the Achiever 91147F bull, Ervie Advance 151991, sold for £4000 to the Campbell Partnership at Oneholmes Farm, Stokesley, Yorkshire. This one is bred from the Carol Lily family and sold with a TI of +34 and SRI of +43.

Four more sold for £3000 or above with the dearest of these, Ervie Advance 151960, selling to JY Elliot and Son, Newsham, Penrith, for £3800. He is by Ervie L1 Achiever 91151H and from the Lisette family. 

Hitting £3700 was Ervie Advance 151888, by Ervie L1 Achiever 81043E and from the Peach family. Forking out the cash was Kenny Lang, Wellhead, Lanark. 

Next at £3200 was another by the Achiever 91151H bull and from the Lisette family, Ervie Advance 151924. This lad heads to new customer John Burrells, Whitby. 

Achiever 91151H was behind the £3000 transaction when Ervie Advance 151986, bred from the Gacile family, sold to Mark Ogg, Aberdeen.
