NINE bullocks and 16 heifers were sold through Lawrie and Symington, last week, where both sections averaged 234p per kg
Limousins from Nethermyres led the pence per kg and per head section in the bullocks when a 628kg sold to 247p and £1551.
Heifers sold to 246p for another 567kg Limousin from Nethermyres, while a Limousin from West Bog made £1449.
In the cast cow ring, 12 sold to 141p for a 808kg Charolais from Shandford and £1200 for a 909kg Charolais  from Tullywhanland.
The 706 hoggs levelled at 164.5p selling to 211.2p and £94 for a 44kg Beltex from A Strachan, Clochie.
Cast ewes and rams (112) hit a top of £82 for Texels from Clochie.

Thainstone
SOME 1982 prime hoggs were sold through Aberdeen and Northern Marts’, where trade peaked at 200p per kg for 40kg Beltex from Newton of Crathie, Ballater, and £84.50 for 70kg Continentals from Bogmill, Pitcaple. They averaged 158.6p (-4.9p) with SQQs at 169.6p (+0.7p).
The company’s sale of 171 cast cows and bulls saw 161 beef cows level at 130.6p. Beef cows peaked at 182.4p per kg for a 595kg Aberdeen Angus from Eastfield of Monaltrie, Ballater and £1450 for a 1100kg Simmental from Lower Wanford, Banff.  

Stirling (Cal)
CALEDONIAN Marts had forward 150 prime cattle, where bullocks levelled at 214p per kg and heifers at 217p.
Bullocks hit a top of 240p twice from Todhall, Cupar, and Learielaw, Broxburn, and £1555 from Greencraig, Falkirk.
Heifers reached 255p from Knockhouse, Dunfermline, and £1623 from Brockwoodlees, Canonbie.
Beef cows sold to 157p and £1450 from Mains of Throsk, Stirling, with dairy to 118p and £990 from Carskerdo, Cupar.
On Tuesday, the firm sold 1760 prime hoggs, ewes and tups where a top price of £101 was achieved amongst the hoggs for Texels from  Nochnary, or 239p per kg from Craigend, Perth. The sale averaged 172.3p (+3.25p on the week).
The 360 cast ewes and tups forward saw 90 heavy ewes average £66.74 and 218 export types at £40.09. The 32 rams levelled at £62.16.
Tups sold to £100 from Drimsynie with ewes to £90 from Nochnary.

Stirling (UA)
UNITED Auctions sold 2775 hoggs to average 162.5p per kg selling to a top of £98 for Texels from Errol Enterprises and 222p for Beltex from Coilavoulin.
Texel ewes from Hill of Errol led the cast sheep trade at £108, while Texel rams from Townhead of Arngibbon made £85.

Longtown
AT Longtown, C and D Auction Marts had forward 4297 prime hoggs and 5007 cast ewes and rams at their weekly sale.
Top price was 263p per kg paid for Beltex hoggs from Bankend, Kinross or £110 per head for Beltex hoggs from Miss L Kennedy, Whitehill Cottage. The sale averaged 169p (SQQ 175.5p).  
Ewes peaked at £160 for Texel ewes from Beckfoot with hill ewes to £63 for Blackies from Fingland. Rams sold to £124 for Charollais from Beckfoot.

Ayr
A PEN of 43kg Beltex from J Kennedy and Son, Perryston, lead Craig Wilson’s sale of 1098 prime hoggs on Monday, selling at 216.3p per kg with the average levelling at 164.1p (+0.5p on the week).
Cast sheep (568) saw heavy ewes average £57.84 and reach £109.50 for Texel ewes from High Kilphin, Ballantrae. Light ewes peaked at £50 for Blackfaces from Rankinston. Texel tups from Blairston Mains, sold to £85.50.
The firm’s sale of 142 prime and cast cattle on Tuesday, saw 11 heifers average 219.6p per kg or £1215.70. Leading at 226p was a Limousin heifer from Ingleston, or £1296 paid for a Charolais heifer from Milmain.
Cast cows saw 49 beef types average127.48p with the 81 dairy cows levelling at 99.34p. Beef cows were topped at 151.8p per kg or £1260 for an Angus from Laigh Borland, with dairy animals to £960 for a Friesian from Carston or 125.8p per kg for a Friesian from Findlayston.

St Boswells
PRIME sheep values improved at Harrison and Hetherington’s sale at St Boswells where 74 clean cattle, 36 beef cows, 1501 hoggs and 301 ewes, were up for grabs.
Hoggs sold to 216p from Mains of Greenburn, and £94 for Texels from Roundabouts with the average levelling at 165.5p, (+4p).
Heavy ewes averaged £73 and lights at £69, with Texels from Threepwood leading at £90.
Bullocks (23) averaged 208.3p (-7.4p) with a top of 243p from Wester Ulston. The 48 heifers cashed in at 217.6p (-0.3p). Bee Edge sold the lead priced lot per head at £1412.20
Beef cows (36) averaged 130p and sold to 165p and £1501.50 from Falla (-3.7p). Seven dairy types averaged 112.5p.

Lanark
BUTCHERS’ cattle averaged 228.3p per kg at Lawrie and Symington’s prime sale at Lanark on Monday, which saw 44 cattle sell to a top price of 246p per kg for a 562kg Limousin heifer from Brockwoodlees.
A Limousin from Calla led the bullocks at 228p per kg.
Cast animals peaked at £1085 or 160p for a Limousin cow from West Glepsin Farm, while dairy types sold to £1075 or 120p from Carlindean Farm.
Prime hoggs averaged 165.6p for 1884 peaking at 222.6p per kg for 42kg Beltex from Collielaw, and £97 for 47kg Texels from Baleny.  

Castle Douglas
ON Tuesday, Wallets Marts sold 374 prime hoggs to average 168.76p per kg with the SQQ at 172.09p.
Top price was £85 paid on three occasions for Texels from Edingham; Suffolks from Midtown,  and for Cheviots from Halket Leaths. Lead per kg was 196.3p for Texels from Midtown.
Cast sheep peaked at £84 for a Texel from Upper Hardland.

Dingwall
BULLOCKS averaged 197.3p and heifers at 209.5p at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale of 14 cattle on Tuesday.
Three bullocks sold to 200p per kg for a 690kg Limousin cross from Ashley, North Kessock and £1443.00 for a 740kg Charolais cross also from Ashley.
Prime heifers (11) hit 219p for a 545kg Limousin cross from Easter Strath, Killen and £1277.20 for a 620kg Charolais cross from Bridgend Farm, Dingwall
The sale of 1129 prime sheep saw 1041 old season lambs average 164.9p having secured a top prices of 232.6p per kg and £100 for 43kg Beltex crosses from Torgorm, Conon Bridge.
SQQ 36.5kg to 45.5kg (724) averaged 172.6p (+4.2p) per kg.
Feeding sheep (88) sold to £80 for a Texel ram from Balliefurth Farm, Grantown of Spey.

Newton Stewart
CRAIG Wilson’s prime sheep sale on Wednesday included a show and sale of Blackface hoggs.
Judge, Haig Murray of Dunbia, found his champion winners in a pen of 47kg hoggs from Messrs McIlwrick, Balmurrie, which he later bought for £87 per head.
The reserve pen, from N Hurcomb, Barnvannoch, scaled 45kg and realised £80.
Overall, 100 Blackface show hoggs averaged £76.90 (45kg at 171p/kg), with the average for the 1553 hoggets sold levelling at 166.6p/kg.
Outwith the show, trade peaked at £85.20 for Suffolks from A Sproat, Baldoon and Texels from J McIntosh, Genoch Mains.
Top per kg was 194.3p paid for lightweights from McBurney Bros, Balsalloch.
Cast sheep sold to £98 for a Suffolk cross ewe from T Galloway, Culnoag.
