EIGHT bullocks averaged 230.5p per kg at Lawrie and Symington’s prime sale, last week, with 16 heifers cashing in at 233p.
Nethermyres topped the bullocks when a 629kg Charolais sold at 246p and £1547, with a 613kg Limousin also from Nethermyres making the same.
Heifers reached 248p for a 555kg Limousin from Woodhead of Mailer and £1437 for a 625kg Limousin from West Bog.
The firm’s sale of 656 prime hoggs averaged 161p, with SQQs at 168p. Top prices of £94.50 and 219.8p were paid for Beltex from Glenmoy.

Huntly
WELL-BRED, fleshy hoggs met a strong trade through United Auctions, last week, when 1802 sold to a top of 202p per kg and £91 for 45kg Beltex from Parks, Rothiemay.
Ewes (913) hit £130 for Texels from Dunscroft.

Stirling (Cal)
CALEDONIAN Marts sold 96 prime bullocks and heifers last week, where bullocks averaged 204p per kg and heifers at 211p.
A Limousin from W Dandie and Son, Learielaw, topped both the pence per kg and per head section, when a heifer sold to 248p and £1532.64. Bullocks reached 232p for a Limousin from AA and J Brand, Nethermyres, and £1507.80 from W Pettigrew, Faskine.
Averaging 122p, cast beef cows peaked at 196p and £1360 for a Limousin from J Gilvear and Sons, Graystale, while dairy cows averaged 107p and sold to 130p from R Nelson, Blairmains, and £1000 from Messrs Broome, Gateside.
On Tuesday, the firm sold 1921 prime hoggs, ewes and tups, where a pen of Texels hoggs from R McNee, Over Finlarg, sold to a top of £119. Top per kg at 217p was a pen of 41kg Beltex from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill. Hoggs averaged 164.2p (-3.8p on the week).
Cast ewes reached £90 for Suffolks from Dumheldric. The 209 heavies averaged £70.88 with 367 export types at £42.03.

Dumfries
PRIME cattle sold to 226p per kg for a Limousin heifer from J and L Craik, Waterside, through C and D Auction Marts.
The 772 prime hoggs, peaked at 180p and £87 for Texels from Shangan, while 401 cast sheep reached £127.50 for Texel ewes from Cowans.

Thainstone
SELLING through Aberdeen and Northern Marts were 88 prime cattle, where bullocks averaged 201.9p per kg (-3.5p on the week) with heifers at 207.3p (+2.4p).
Bullocks (29) sold to 233p for a 590kg British Blue from Waterside, Forbes, and £1449.90 for a 810kg Limousin from Biffie, Old Deer.
A 520kg Limousin from Waterside topped the 17 heifers at 237p, with a 630kg Limousin at £1379.70 from Auchmaliddie Mains, Maud.
A British Blue weighing 675kg from Shenval, Ballindalloch, led the 182 beef cast cows at 180p per kg, while a 975kg British Blonde from Freefield House, Old Rayne, sold for £1550.
The firm’s sale of 3447 prime hoggs averaged 163p (-6.9p on th week) with 1922 SQQs at 167.1p. They sold to 206.1p for 41kg Texels from Waterside, Forbes, and £104 for 56kg Texels from Veltigar, Tankerness.

Stirling (UA)
United Auctions sold 4365 prime hoggs to average 159.2p per kg with lead prices of £98.50 for Beltex from Ballechin and 227p for Beltex from Kinloch.
Texel ewes from Halbeath led the 1807 ewes at £150, while Texel tups from Kinloch made £108.

Longtown
THERE was a shortage of quality and export weight hoggs at C and D Auction Marts, where the sale of 6068 included a show and sale of pens of 20 Blackfaces.
Judge Will Tinning, Dunbia, awarded the championship to a 45kg pen from Messrs McTurk, Barlaes, which he later bought for £80. In reserve was a 47kg pen from Messrs McWhirter, Garvillan, made £77 to M Lomax.
Top per kg at 268p was a pen of Beltex from Messrs Gribbon, Waterside, with Beltex from Messrs Wilson, Wood Farm, hitting £109. The sale averaged 166.8p (SQQ 170.8p).
Cast sheep (3925) saw ewes peak at £164 for heavy Texels from Orchardton Mains, with lights to £80 for Lonks from Bush of Ewes.

St Boswells
AT Harrison and Hetherington’s sale 16 bullocks averaged 203.6p per kg (-10.4p on the week) with 53 heifers at 215.4p (+2.4p).
Top price per kg was 240p for a heifer from Bee Edge, while bullocks peaked at 238p from J Gilmour, Penston. Lead per head at £1512 was an entry from Faughhill.
The 43 beef cows levelled at 131.4p and sold to 195p (+6.4p) from Kersknowe and £1559.30 from Thrunton.
Averaging 165p (-5p), the 1450 hoggs sold to 212.5p for Beltex from Faughhill and £87 for Texels from Muircleugh.
Suffolks from Bonjedward Mill topped the 461 cast ewes at £105. Heavy ewes averaged £71 with lighter types at £37 selling to £67 for Cheviots from Shaws.

Ayr
BELTEX hoggs weighing 42kg from J and R Semple, Netherton, sold for the top price of 207.1p per kg at Craig Wilson’s sale of 2126 prime hoggs on Monday.
Averaging 163.2p, they sold to a peak of £95 for Beltex from Balcamie.
Cast ewes averaged £80.14 with a top price of £148.50 for heavy Texel ewes from J Yorke, Holms of Caaf, while export ewes levelled at £44.27 and reached £67 for  Blackface ewes from J Murdoch and Son, Knockdon.
On Tuesday, the firm sold 210 prime and cast cattle, where 12 heifers averaged 221.7p and hit a top of 234p for a Limousin heifer from South Milmain and £1338.75 for a Limousin heifer from Langlands.
Averaging 136.4p, 77 cast beef cows peaked at £1140 for Limousin from Parduvine and 169.9p from Creochhill, while 126 dairy types levelled at 102.6p and sold to £1000 from Gateside and 140p from Knockefferick.

Lanark
A TOP price of 247p per kg was paid for a Limousin heifer weighing 522kg from David Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, at Lawrie and Symington’s sale of 40 prime cattle, on Monday.
Bullocks reached 224p for a Limousin from Mid Shawtonhill and butchers cattle averaged 230.8p.
Cast cattle (89) reached £1275 and 172p for a Limousin cow from Nether Abington with dairy types to £875 from Quothquan Mill.
Averaging 165.3p, the 2669 hoggs reached 211.6p for a pen of 43kg Beltex from J Nisbet, Orchardton, and £100 for 70kg Texels from J Boyd, Dechmont.
Dingwall
HEIFERS from Easter Hardmuir, Nairn, topped both the pence per kilo and per head sections at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ prime sale.
Selling to 213.9p (+2.3p) was a 505kg Limousin cross, while another weighing 590kg made £1303.90.
In the bullocks, a 565kg Limousin cross from Ashley, North Kessock, made 210.0p with another from the same home weighing 610kg to £1274.90.
The firm’s sale of 1591 prime hoggs averaged 169.1p (-0.2p) with 1263 SQQs at 171.7p (+0.4p). They peaked at 193.2p and £85 for a pen of 44kg Beltex cross lambs from Torgorm, Conon Bridge, while 52 feeding sheep sold to £78 for Texel cross ewes from Inverglas Farm, Kingussie.

Castle Douglas
WELL-fleshed sheep sold similar on the week at Wallets Marts’ sale of 885 prime hoggs, where they averaged 161.66p per kg with SQQs at 163.74p.
Texel hoggs from Drumcoltran, lead the price per kg and gross trade at £90 and 200p.
Also forward were 85 cast ewes which peaked at £88 for Suffolks from Culnaightrie.  

Newton Stewart
A POORER show of 817 hoggs sold to average 159p per kg, peaking at 186.1p for Beltex from J McMillan, Carse o’ Clary, and £85.20 for Bleu du Maine crosses from J McMillan, Over Airies.
