SCOTTISH producers were in buying mode at the Border and Lakeland club show and sale of dairy cattle at Carlisle, where the champion sold for the top price of 2600gns and 14 animals sold at or above £2000 when the sale met a total clearance.

Making that top price and one of three of the trade leaders to sell to Willie Brewster, Wester Borland, Thornhill, was Wormanby Snowcat Ruby, a December 2014-born daughter of Sandy-Valley Snowcat from the Hodgson family at Burgh in Sands, Carlisle. She has the potential to develop into a VG87-2yr female, and changed hands having calved at the start of last month.

Mr Brewster also secured the second top price lot for 2400gns. That was the May 2014-born Espland Aftershock Sue 2, an MS Atlees Sht Aftershock daughter from DI and AA Cannon, Applyby. Another to have calved last month, she is out of an Ex90 dam.

The Cannons also sold Espland Embargo Maria, a heifer by Mr Lookout P Embargo, and their reserve champion, Espland Medigian Alison 2, to Mr Brewster for 2300gns and 1850gns, respectively.

Matching that 2300gns when knocked down to G McCulloch, High Ardwell, Stranraer, was Paul and Ann Harrison's Chishillways Artes Petrina from Breckney Hill, Newcastle upon Tyne. Sired by Go-Farm Artes and out of an Ex92-SP cow, she was second in her class to the champion.

Included in the sale was the first dispersal of the Taylor family's Tannadice herd from Baldoukie Farm, Angus. Their offering of 29 peaked at 1950gns for Tannadice Goldfarm Dawn, a second calver by Sabbiona Goldfarm and bred from four generations of VG cows. She also heads to High Ardwell with Mr McCulloch.
