PEDIGREE and commercial buyers were out in force at Newark British Blue day, where entries from Gail Ellis’ production sale from her Trencrom herd led the sale and topped at 6500gns.

Hitting that price was the maiden heifer Trencrom K Factor, a Boherard Cantona daughter born in January, 2015, out of the Bringlee Blackstart-sired Trencrom Ex Factor. Bred from a naturally calving line, she was knocked down to Messrs Todd, Wragby, Lincolnshire.

Ms Ellis, from St Ives, Cornwall, also led the bull section with Trencrom Kronenborg, a Littlebank Gigolo son out of the Ballygrange Alex-sired Denby Ebony. He caught the eye of WH Farrow and Sons and heads to Alford, Lincolnshire.

Back to the maiden heifers from Trencrom and Messrs Boocock and Son, Stamford Bridge, East Yorkshire, paid 4000gns for Trecrom Kalypso. This ET-bred heifer is by Phenomene de Martinpre and out of the same female at K Factor.

Two bulls sold for 3500gns, including Katie Allen’s Woodseat Kaiser Chief which sold to AJ Smith Farming, Nash, Buckinghamshire. This Ridge Dean Dictator son is out of a Heros du Peroy daughter.

Selling to the Layton family, Leominster, Herefordshire, for the same price was Tweeddale Kurt from Angela Falkingham and Diane Hill. Originally bred by Messrs Redhead and Watson, this lad is by Tweeddale Hebony and out of a Visconti de St Fontaine daughter.

A run of pedigree Limousin cows with Blue-sired calves at foot peaked at 3100gns for Mereside Hotlips, a Haltcliffe Dancer daughter, from the Hazard family, Grantham, Lincolnshire. She sold to Andrew and Beck Bishop, Eldersfield, Gloucestershire, with a Blue bull calf at foot and served by Mereside Jackal.

Pedigree Blue cows peaked at 2500gns for Robert Brittain’s Lark Valley Hazel, a 2012-born daughter of Hazelwood Freshman. She sold to Gail Ellis along with a cross-bred bullock at foot.

Among the commercial cattle, a British Blue cross heifer from the Baldwin family, Wigan, sold for £3000.
