LAWRIE and Symington’s sale of 30 prime cattle, last week, saw 10 bullocks average 216.4 per kg, with 15 heifers at 243p. 
A 628kg Limousin from Nethermyres topped the bullocks at 243p and £1526.04, while Limousins from Gask led the heifers to 260p for one weighing 546kg and £1423 for another at 547kg. 
Also forward were 703 hoggs which sold to a top of 200p for a 42kg Texel from Hatton of Cargill and £90 for a 53kg from Newbigging of Ceres. They averaged 172.3p, with SQQs at 187p. 
Cast sheep (108) peaked at £95.50 for Texels from Balconnel.

Longtown
A LARGER show of 6301 prime hoggs was forward at C and D Auction Marts’, last week, where Beltex hoggs from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, Crieff, topped at £123 and 308p per kg. 
Hoggs cashed in to average 176.4p with SQQs at 183.8p. 
Cast ewes and rams (3596) saw trade £4 to £5 dearer on the week. Top price at £158 were Texel ewes from Messrs Clark, Fineview, Glenluce, while rams reached £147 for Texels from T and V Illingworth, Howgillside, Eagleside. 
The firm’s sale of 18 prime cattle also sold dearer on the week and hit a top of 222p for a Limousin heifer from Robert Fiddler and £925.75 for a Charolais cow from John Haynes. 

Stirling (Cal)
SELLING dearer on the week at Caledonian Marts, last week, were 95 bullocks, heifers and young bulls, which saw both bullocks and heifers average 210p per kg. 
Bullocks sold to 240p for a British Blue from TH Gray, Balquharrage, Lennoxtown, and £1528 for a Limousin from JH and NT Turnball, Meadowend, Clackmannan.
Among the heifers, it was a Limousin from R Cook, Kinneil Mill, Linlithgow, that topped at 238p with an entry from AS Hay, Mains of Cultmalundie, Tibbermore, at £1549.  
Young bulls reached 210p and £1548 for Limousins from W Dick and Sons, Mains of Throsk.
Averaging 121p, the beef-bred cast cows sold to 189p and £1300 for a Limousin from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn, while dairy types levelled at 105p and peaked at 119p and £930 from J Pollock and Sons, Bonnyhill, Bonnybridge.
Averaging 158p, the 1984 hoggs on offer on Monday sold to a top of £100 for a pen of 19 Beltex crosses from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, and 222p for a pen of five from the same home. 
Cast ewes and tups (290) saw the 165 heavy ewes level at £73.10 and hit a top of £109 for Suffolks from M Quinn, Whinneyhall, Kinglussie, while 92 exports ewes averaged £56.46. 

Thainstone
ALL classes were dearer on the week at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’s prime sale, last Thursday, where 12 bullocks levelled at 209p per kg (+17.6p on the week) and 33 heifers averaged 211.4p (+1.7p). 
Bullocks reached 237p for a 585kg Limousin from Cairncoullie, Glenkindie, and £1408.35 for a 615kg British Blue from Waterside of Forbes, Alford. 
Heifers lead the pence per kg section at 247p for a 540kg Limousin from Waterside of Forbes, and also sold to £1432.95 for a 615kg Limousin from Cairncoullie. 
Averaging 137.9p, the 118 beef-bred cast cows sold to 186.9p for a Simmental weighing 650kg from Caskieben, Kinellar, and £1290 for a 705kg Limousin from Broadgreens, Turriff. 
The 13 bulls levelled at 119.9p and peaked at 138.1p for a Simmental from Westburn Croft, Balmedie, and £1190 for a 1075kg Charolais from Poolside, Rothiemay. 
Old season lambs (5219) hit a top of 250p for a 40kg Beltex from Mains of Culsh, New Deer, and £101 for 42kg Beltex from Newton of Lewesk, Old Rayne. 
They averaged 171.3p (-5.4p), while the SQQ hoggs up to 45.5kg levelled at 182.8p (-2.3p). 

Stirling (UA)
BELTEX from Luckenburn lead United Auctions’ sale of hoggs at £104 and 231p per kg, last week, where the 5302 on offer sold to average 166.1p. 
Texels from Nethermill topped the 1306 cast ewes  at £160, while Texels from Nether Kidston led the cast tups at £146. 

St Boswells
AT Harrison and Hetherington’s sale on Monday, 15 bullocks cashed in to average 217p per kg (+5p on the week), with 55 heifers at 212p (-8p).
Top price per kg of 246p was paid for a heifer from Penston, while bullocks peaked at 238p from Shaws of Lauder and Smailholm Mains. 
Top price per head at £1431.54 was paid for an entry from Longnewton. 
The 33 beef cows levelled at 140p (n/c) and sold to 181p and £1534.88 from Humebyres.
Averaging 166p (-10p), the 1294 hoggs peaked at £95 twice for Suffolks from Boghall, and 201.3p for Cheviots from Towford. 
Suffolks from New Street topped 173 cast ewes at £111. Heavy ewes averaged £85 with lighter types at £45, having sold to £67 for Cheviots. 

Ayr
BELTEX weighing 42kg from J Wilson and Son, Wheatfield, Kilmaurs, topped Craig Wilson’s sale of 2294 hoggs at 238.1p per kg or £100 per head. 
The hogg entry sold cheaper on the week to average 166.1p (-13.9p on the week). 
The firm’s sale of 431 cast ewes and rams saw heavy ewes average £75.84 and reach £145 for a pen of Texel ewes from J Kennedy, Lyonstone, Maybole. 
Averaging £53.47, light ewes topped at £74.50 for a pen of Blackfaces from J Caldwell and Sons, Moorfield, Kilmarnock.  
Texel tups from J and J McLeish, Back o Hill, Ochiltree, sold for £103. 

Carlisle
TRADE was sharper on the week at Harrison and Hetherington’s sale of 37 bullocks and heifers, where a British Blue bullock from Messrs Smithston, Bloban Farm, topped at £1619.48 and 215.5p per kg.
Heifers sold to £1389 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Robley, Demense, Brampton, and 225.5p for a Limousin from Messrs Wilson, Petteril Hill Farm. 
A good show of 283 cast cows and OTM cattle, which were mainly dairy-bred, peaked at 200.5p for a Blonde cross heifer from Messrs Phillipson, Glebe Farm, as well as £1835 for a Blonde cow from Messrs Gibb, Jubilee Buildings. 
The firm’s sale of 2000 hoggs and cast ewes saw trade peak at £100.80 for a pen of six Beltex hoggs from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown, while a pen of eight Beltex crosses from Messrs Gribbon, Waterside, made 233.7p. 
Ewes made a brisk trade and sold to a top of £109.50 for a pen of Texels from Messrs Hetherington, Blue Dial. 

Castle Douglas
A PLAINER show of 645 prime and cast sheep was forward at Wallets Marts’ Castle Douglas centre on Tuesday, where a large percentage of heavier types proved harder to sell. 
Topping the sale at £83 was a pen of Cheviots from J Maxwell and Son, Halket Leaths, and with a similar pen selling for 201p per kg. SQQ hoggs levelled at 171.8p. 
Cast ewes were easier on the week and reached £124 for Texels from Hillside.

Dingwall
ON Tuesday, Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale of prime cattle saw the 12 heifers level at 211.7p per kg (+1.2p on the week) and hit a top of 219p for a 530kg Limousin cross from Easter Strath, Killen, and £1281.25 for a 625kg Charolais cross from Bridgend, Dingwall. 
Averaging 178.7p (-10.6p) with 1316 SQQs at 182.3p (-12.4p), the 1565 hoggs sold to 209.3p for a pen of 43kg Beltex crosses from Torgorm, Conon Bridge, and £91 for a pen of 43.5kg Cheviot lambs from Viewbay, Munlochy. 
Feeding sheep (54) peaked at £70 for a Zwartbles ewe from Garguston, Muir of Ord. 

Newton Stewart
CRAIG Wilson sold 411 prime hoggs, on Wednesday, where a pen of 36kg Blackfaces from Lagafater Farms, Barnvennoch, topped at 181.9p per kg. 
Suffolks from Over Airies led the gross trade at £83.50, and the sale averaged 161.9p. 
Cast sheep (60) reached £106.50 for a pen of Texel cross ewes from A Wallace and Co, Claycrop.
