Carlisle
A GOOD selection of cattle forward at HArrison and Hetheringotn ensured a strong trade prevailed as 376 catalogued store cattle and 321 un-entered store bulls sold to a top of £1380 for a British Blue bullock from I and L Beaty, Durdar. 

Heifers peaked at £1290 for two Limousin pairs, firstly from W Cairns and Sons, Windy Nook, and again from PE Robinson, Pelutho Park. 

Weaned calves (258) reached £1170 for a British Blue bull from AT Dixon, Chirdon, with heifers to £990 for a Limousin cross from W and B Nichol, Lawston, with bullocks to the same for a Limmy cross from R Maughan, Greencarts. 

A few days later the firm held a small show of breeding cattle where all classes met a good trade to top at £2250 for a Limousin cross heifer with heifer calf at foot from TN Cowan, The Ash, Roadhead. Bulling heifers averaged £1341 and sold to £1500 twice for pure Limousins from JE Carruthers, Silloans. 

On Monday, the firms sold breeding sheep to a top of £97 per head for a Texel gimmer with Charolais-sired lamb at foot from Miss Charlotte Goddard, Gall Farm, Lockerbie. A top price per unit of £243 was paid for a pen of Suffolk two-shears with twins by a Texel from Messrs Brough, Clappers.

Dingwall
ALL classes met a firm demand at a show and sale of store cattle at Dingwall and Highland Marts, where judge C MacIver, Easter Strath of Auchterflow, picked out a Limousin cross bullock as his champion. 

Consigned by W Kellas, Burnside Croft, the stot weighed in at 490kg and later sold to Backmuir Livestock, Keith, for £1200. In reserve was a 410kg Limousin cross heifer from W Mackintosh, Lyne of Urchany, which sold to Mr MacIver for £1100. 

Topping the trade at £1310 and 294.4p per kg, however, was a 445kg Charolais heifer from Wester Craiglands, Fortrose, with the 386 heifers cashing in to average 226.4p.

Bullocks (695) averaged 235.1p and sold to 277.3p for a 375kg Limousin cross from Seafield Park, Nairn, and £1305 for a 620kg Charolais cross from Torgorm, Conon Bridge.

Also on offer were 39 OTM cattle, where the 38 cows averaged 130.3p. They were topped by Limousin crosses at 154.2p from Cambusmore Farming, Dornoch, and £1290 from Kinnahaird, Contin.

CHAROLAIS crosses from South Port O Spittal topped the pence per kg trade at United Auctions, where a 253kg bullock sold for 294p per kg and a 269kg heifer made 263.9p.

A 725kg Simmental cross bullock from High Currochtrie led the gross trade at £1360 and a 578kg Charolais cross heifer from Moolies realised £1300. 

Overall, the 1226 bullocks averaged 228.66p with 668kg heifers at 220.44p. 

Dairy bullocks (71) levelled at 165.74p having peaked at 191.2p from Stoopshill and £740 from Nether Pratis, while young bulls (57) averaged 202.43p and sold to 226.4p for an Aberdeen-Angus cross from Titwood as well as £1090 for a Simmental cross from South Slipperfield. 

Averaging 140.05p, the 146 cast beef cows sold to 197.5p for a Limousin cross off Goddens and £1410 for a Simmental cross from Binn. Dairy cows (16) reached 125.4p from Craigend, £995 from Easter Greenhill, and averaged 109.74p. 

Of the 708 store hoggs and breeding sheep, hoggs reached £86.50 for Texels from Deuchar with breeders to £162 for Texel crosses with twins from Dalowie.

Ayr
CRAIG Wilson sold 514 store cattle where all classes continued to sell well as 262 bullocks averaged 226.7p per kg with 73 dairy types at 149.8p and 179 heifers at 217.5p. 

Aberdeen-Angus led the bullock section at £1360 from Ardwell and 264.6p from Merrymouth, while dairy bullocks reached £860 from Little Ittington and 193.9p from Ardwell Mains. 

Heifers reached £1320 for a Charolais from Caprickhill and 252.2p for a pen of Limousins from East Polquhirter. 

A small show of 86 store hoggs and breeding sheep saw Texels from Glendoune top at £56, while a pen of Mule ewes with Suffolk-sired twins at foot from Raithhill topped the breeders at £114.

TRADE was as buoyant as ever at Harrison and Hetherington, where 558 store cattle sold to a top of £1365 for a pen of Charolais bullocks from MEssrs Weir, Cortleferry. 

More Charolais bullocks, this time a pen of nine from MEssrs Ridgeway, Nether Howden, led the pence per kg trade at 289.3p, and bullocks cashed in to average 233.96p or £993.37. 

Heifers reached £1270 for Charolais from Coxydene, 283.6p for Limousins from Woodheads, and averaged 226.45p or £884.94. 
Ewes with lambs (70) peaked at £180 for pure Suffolks with singles from Kypie.

Thainstone
IT was the pre-sale champion from guise Farm Partnership, Alford, that went on to top the heifer section at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 1368 store cattle at £1380.

Picked out by judge Stuart Walker, Culfork, Alford, that was a 478kg Limousin cross heifer that later sold to Backmuir Trading, Keith, while the reserve, a 552kg Limmy cross bullock from A and E Grant, Glendamph, later sold to D and V Buchan, Savoch, for £1300. 

Best animal from the islands was a 516kg Limmy cross bullock from T and J Leslie, Quoymorhouse, Shapinsay, which also sold to Backmuir Trading, this time for £1350 and the top price of the Orkney and Shetland cattle.

Charolais cattle led the rest of the trade when bullocks hit £1445 for a 644kg bullock from Westerton of New Rayne, Insch, and 306.9p per kg for a pen of 378kg bullocks from Burnton, Laurencekirk, while heifers also sold to 286.1p for one weighing 416kg from Kennieshillock, Lhanbryde. 

Overall, the 888 bullocks averaged 237.5p (+6.7p on the week) with 468 heifers at 229.5p (+1p). Young bulls (12) sold to 208.3p for a 456kg Salers cross from Ringesta, Quendale, and £1110 for 686kg Charolais from Burnside of Whitefield, Forglen.

Of the Orkney and Shetland cattle, bullocks also sold to 285.8p for pair of 390kg Limousins from Sebay Cottage, Tankerness, and £1350 for a 516kg Limousin from Quoymorhouse, Shapinsay, while heifers reached 265.3p for a pair of 392k Aberdeen-Angus from Hammerbrake, Sanday, and £1170 for a 500kg British Blue from Quoymorhouse.

Also on offer were 2390 sheep of all classes. where Texels from Burnside, Newmachar, topped the 1149 store hoggs at £89 and more from 8 Meadow Park, Kirkwall, topped the 27 island hoggs at £66.

UNITED Auctions held a show and sale of store cattle, where judge G Taylor, Old Mill of Shivas, picked out a Limousin cross bullock from G Carroll, Edendiack, Huntly, as his champion. 

Weighing in at 390kg, it later sold to Messrs George, Parks, for £1130 or 289.7p per kg. 

The reserve, a British Blue cross heifer weighing 515kg from S Riddoch, Tochineal, which sold to W Cameron for £1210 or 235p. 

Overall averages rose on the year as 719 bullocks levelled at 234.8p (+13.2p) with 414 heifers at 231.6p (+13.7p). The entry topped at 305.5p for a pen of four Limousin cross bullocks from Deershill, Cuminestown, and £1370 for bullocks from Mosstown, Kinnoir. Heifers peaked at 294.6p for Limmy crosses from Slydie, Sauchen, and £1400 for Simmental crosses from Myreton, Insch. 

A Simmental cross from Fordmouth, Tomintoul, topped the 12 cast cows at £970 and 150p.

JUDGING a show of store cattle at Caledonian Marts was Ross Johnston, North Medrox, who picked out a Charolais bullock from J and D Mitchell, Offers, as his champion. 

Scaling 480kg, it sold to AC Bruce, Glendavny, while the reserve, a 395kg Limousin heifer from D and L Graham, Mains of Burnbank, sold to A Kerr, East Cairnbeg, for £830. 

Burnbank also had the best pen of four heifers which later realised £920 at a weight of 378kg, while the best pen of four bullocks weighing 492kg from R McNee, Woodend, sold for £1100. 

Overall, bullocks averaged 222p per kg and sold to 268p for a Simmental from G Stewart, Wester Whin, and £1300 twice – for a Simmental from A Peock, Bowhouse, and again for a Salers from J and J Brown, Loanrigg. Levelling at 217p, heifers peaked at 260p for a Limousin from A McDowall and Son, Mid Ervie, and £1230 for an Aberdeen-Angus from TJ Paterson, Alton Muirhouse. Dairy bullocks sold to 195p and £1170 from JC Orr, Baldastart, and averaged 152p. 

Also on offer were 1036 sheep, where ewe hoggs reached £77 for North Country Cheviots from Woodend Cottage and breeding sheep hit £158 for Texel ewes with twins from Tullygarth.

ALL classes of cattle met a strong demand at Harrison and Hetherington on Tuesday, where bullocks averaged 239p per kg and heifers levelled at 220.47p. 

A British Blue cross heifer from DA Wilson, Belzies, topped at £1240 with heifers also hitting 292.3p for a 284kg Limousin cross from J Common and Son, Crossdykes. Bullocks were led by entries from IT Goldie, Greenfield, at £1190 for a pen of 466kg Charolais stots as well as 283p for pens of Salers and Charolais crosses from Greenfield.
