FOLLOWING a positive sale of Simmental cattle and a top of 100,000gns for Limousins on Saturday, the focus now moves to the other breeds on offer at Harrison and Hetherington’s bull sales at its Borderway centre, in Carlisle.

First in the spotlight will be a 130-strong entry of Charolais bulls and 51 females, including an entry from the Thrunton herd. Judging the Charolais section on Friday, May 12, will be Miss Jane Haw, who runs the Balbithan herd near Dorchester, Dorset, before they go under the hammer at 10.30am the following day.

Also on Saturday, May 13, will be the show and sale of British Blondes where judge Desmond Green, of the Scaughmolin herd, in Co Wexford, Ireland, will put the 20 bulls and seven females through their paces. The sale will follow at 12 noon.

It’s a busy schedule for the next two weeks as British Blues and Belted Galloways will all be judged on Friday, May 19, before selling through the ring on the Saturday at 11.30am and 12.30pm, respectively. Judging the 100 Blue bulls and 50 females will be Andy Anderson, of Smallburn Farms, Elgin, while Harriet Bunning, of the Hatherland herd, Devon, will judge the Belties.

Then, on Friday, May 26, the 90 Aberdeen-Angus bulls and 25 females will be judged by Ian Watson, of the Kersquarter herd, Kelso, before selling at 11.30am, while 15 Beef Shorthorn bulls and 60 females, including the autumn-calving portion of the Blelack herd and a draft sale from Fieldhouse, will be judged by Mary Reynolds, Borden, Hampshire, before selling at 12 noon.

Also on offer on Friday, May 26, will be a selection of Hereford, Lincoln Red, Salers and South Devon cattle.
