PRICES peaked at 4800gns for Tom Crawford’s dispersal of the pedigree Longwood Ayrshire herd from Topcroft, Suffolk.
The sale, staged at Beeston Auction Mart, attracted buyers from Ayrshire to Cornwall and from Essex to Pembrokeshire, and was led by the in-calf heifer, Longwood Remington Bella ET.
A daughter of Mapleburn Remington, Bella is bred from one of the most prolific females in the breed, being out Haresfoot Bella 6 Ex95-7E 3* which has bred progeny to gross well in excess of £20,000. She sold due in June, to a beef bull, for 4800gns to Andrew Rimmer of Ormskirk.
Three lots made 2300gns each, including Longwood Crown Margot Ex90-2E, a fresh fourth calved cow by Ardmore Crown Napier, that calved in January and sold giving 53kg. 
She is out of the VG85-2yr Longwood Potter Margot, and sold to John Smith of St Osyth, Essex. 
Longwood Regent Trixie Ex92-4yr that calved her third in December and was giving 41kg daily made the same money selling to Philip Jeffries of Welshpool, Powys. 
Scottish genetics are behind this transaction with the sire being Barr Regent, onto the Ex90 Barr Easter Trixie. 
Also making 2300gns was Longwood Kellogg Tapioca ET which was imported as an embryo from Canada. 
Bred from the VG87 Mapleburn RL Tapioca, this 27-month-old heifer that stood first in her class at the All Breeds Calf Show, is  by Blackaddar BB Kellogg and sold sexed to De La Plaine Prime, to the Brent Crothers of Pulverbatch, Shrewsbury.

Averages: 37 cows and milking heifers, £1889.65 (including 17 heifer calves at £871.90; 14 served heifers £1773.75; 15 maiden heifers £905.80. Overall, 66 head, £1641.66.
