A NEW breed record for a British Blue bull was set at the Border British Blue Club’s annual spring show and sale at Carlisle, last week.
Trade hit 24,000gns for Dragon Blues Kai, a black and white bull brought out by GW and K Williams, Tynllyn, Llanwnnen, Lampeter.
May, 2015-born, this ET bull is by Tweeddale Ebony and out of Dragon Blues Gweno. He had taken the reserve senior male championship in the show, before selling to TE Jones and Co, Bailea Farm, Hoel Senni, Sennybridge, Powys.
Another two from the same home also hit five-figure prices.
At 12,000gns, was Dragon Blues Kevin ET, a 26-month-old bull from the same flush as Kai. Second in his class, he was knocked down to H Harvey and Son, Waxham Hall, Norwich, Norfolk.

Dragon Blues King ET, a 27-month-old black bull from the Cromwell Fendt and Dragon Blues Hope flush made 11,800gns. He stood first in his class and goes home to local farmer, Brian Hall, Ainstable Hall, Ainstable, Carlisle.

At 15,000gns was the show’s supreme champion, Bedgebury Kent, from Andrew Price, Maidstone. This two-year-old Germinal De Fooz-sired bull, out of Bedgebury Fancy Pants, joins the Devon-based Stoneleigh herd of Andrew Haste.

With a clearance of 84% for the bulls, three entries sold for 10,000gns each, with Kevin Watret’s Solway View Kelvin ET the first through the ring at that price.

He had been senior male champion, reserve overall male and reserve supreme champion in the show.  
This 19-month-old bull, from the Solway View Firecracker and Bringlee Evadine flush, won the reserve junior male title at the Royal Highland in 2016 and was junior champion and reserve junior inter-breed champion at Stars of the Future in 2015. He went to Danny Sawrij’s Kedzlie Farms, Blainslie, Lauderdale, Galashiels.  
From the same stable and also valued at 10,000gns was the third prize Solway View King Kong. This two-year-old – a son of Solway View Dynamite ET and out of Bridgemuir Dolly ET – was knocked down to W Ridley, Wood Hall, Hesket New Market, Wigton.

Also selling at 10,000gns was Almeley Kwasimodo shown by Graham Morgan, The Cider Mill, Tillington. This 23-month-old son of Colos Van Daisel, out of Almeley Forever Chelsea, joins Andrew Kay’s Gass herd at Straiton.

Next, on 9500gns, was the last bull through the ring, Downbyrigg Legend from local breeder, Neil Forrester, Westlinton, Carlisle. This 16-month-old sold from the Colos van Daisel and Springfield Carissa flush, was first in his class and sold to JA Wood and Sons, Kinnerton Hall Farm, Shrewsbury, Shropshire.
Selling for 8000gns was Bedgebury Knight, another consigned by Andrew Price. Heading home with KA Brown and Sons, Asby Hall Mews, Great Asby, this Attribut Du Fond De Bois son is out of Justiciere Di P’tit Mayeur.
Following him were no fewer than four bulls at 7000gns.
First off was Greystones Kilo from J and E Coates, Rainscar, Stainforth. By Almeley Ginola, he was knocked down to Gary Whalley, Brunthill Moor Farm, Newton-on-Bowland, Clitheroe.
GL and KS Morgan then sold  Almeley Kudo for seven grand to Stewart Farms, Balglass Farm, Glasgow. He’s by Tweedale Gee Whiz and out of Almeley Hyacinth.
Next at that price was Lukeroyal Kracker, from Mel and Diane Lucas, Co Antrim. This son of Giga Du Bois Remont, out of Lukeroyal Caroline sold to A and CS Comrie, The Beeches, Stonebyres Mains, Lanark.
The Jenkinson team from Alscott, Shebbear, Beaworth, saw Dymond Blue Kilkeel through the ring at 7000gns. Going home with RG Francis, Crugnant, Adfa, Newtown, Powys, his sire is Adajio De Bray.
The leading female price went to Mel and Diane Lucas, for their cow, Lukeroyal Fidget from the Baron du bois Bauloye and Lukeroyal Clarabelle flush.  She was sold for 7000gns to an undisclosed buyer.

At 6800gns was the first prize winning heifer and calf from local breeder Greg Jackson, Skelton Wood End, Penrith.  Woodend Jamelia, a January, 2014-born-heifer by Atok Chancellor and out of Springfield Gloria, sold with her five-month-old bull calf at foot. This calf, named Woodend Logan, is by Attribut Du Fond De Bois and went home with Blair Duffton, Huntly, Aberdeenshire.
Also hitting the high notes, again from Greg Jackson, was his maiden heifer, Woodend Kendra. A March, 2015, heifer by Atok Chancellor and out of Springfield Georgia. She was sold to Preston Farms, Omagh, Co Tyrone, for 5000gns.
Matching that was Top Side Lexi from Ross and Elaine Pattinson, Temon Farm, Low Road, Brampton. Lexi stood second in her class and is from the Bringlee Carlos and Ridge Dean Auntie flush.
This January, 2016-born heifer sold to EW and JR Parksinson, Hareden Hall Farm, Dunsop Bridge, Clitheroe, Lancs.
The female title went to Richard Tiplady, for Tipladys Lottie, by Tweeddale Ironman and out of Franks Exasperation ET. She was knocked down to the judge Andrew Anderson, Smallburn Farms, Elgin, for 4500gns.
